Fire Investigator – Principal Consultant (Seasonal)
Crawford & Company is seeking a seasonal Fire Investigator – Principal Consultant to join our team. This role is crucial for analyzing fire and explosion scenes to determine their cause and origin. Role Overview:
As a Certified Fire Investigator / Certified Fire & Explosion Investigator (CFI/CFEI), you will analyze and interpret fire and explosion scenes to determine the cause and origin. You will also be responsible for conveying findings, defending opinions in legal settings, completing training, and mentoring other investigators.
Responsibilities:
- Perform all required analysis and work to determine the cause and origin of fires and explosion incidents.
- Convey findings and conclusions clearly and concisely through written reports.
- Defend opinions in court or litigious settings when necessary.
- Complete required corporate training and development programs.
- Mentor and train subordinate investigators.
Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in a field commensurate with duties. Experience may be accepted in lieu of education on a case-by-case basis. Bachelor's or higher is preferred.
- Minimum CFEI certification through NAFI; CFI certification through IAAI is preferred.
- Familiarity with NFPA 921 is required.
- Must meet all requirements for qualification as a fire investigator per NFPA 1033.
- 10 years of public and/or private fire investigative duties, actively engaged in Origin and Cause.
- Previous expert testimony or deposition experience is highly preferred but not required, provided proof of completion of NFA or an equivalent Testimony class is available.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to deliver fast and accurate turnaround times.
- Capability to handle multiple project workloads and manage high-stress periods, especially during peak business demand.
- Hands-on proficiency, including the ability to climb ladders and roofs, and crawl in tight spaces as necessary for investigations.
- Adherence to OCI's/C&C Safety Protocol guidelines when working on assigned projects, unless significant hazards are identified.
- Compliance with all standards for pre-employment physical examination.
- Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
- Willingness to travel and/or work a flexible schedule during periods of peak demand.
- Willingness to work remotely from a home office with reliable, high-speed internet.
