The Mission of the Director, Data Engineering at Cozey

We are looking for an experienced Director, Data Engineering to build, lead, and own Cozey’s entire data function. This role is responsible for setting the data vision and strategy for the company, building a scalable, modern data platform, and empowering teams across Cozey including demand & supply planning, marketing, operations, finance, and leadership to make better, faster decisions. You will play a critical role in ensuring Cozey’s data foundation supports not only analytics and reporting, but also forecasting, experimentation, and future machine learning use cases as the company scales. You will be a hands-on leader initially, but your mandate is to build a durable data foundation and team that prepares Cozey for its next phase of growth, including advanced analytics, forecasting, and AI-driven use cases. We are specifically looking for someone who has built and led a data team before. Experience in retail or ecommerce environments is a strong advantage.

What You'll Be Doing

• Own Cozey’s end-to-end data vision and roadmap, aligned with company priorities and long-term growth.
• Design and evolve a data platform that supports analytics today and AI-driven capabilities tomorrow.
• Establish best practices for data modeling, governance, quality, and reliability across the organization.
• Architect, build, and own the entire data stack, from ingestion to transformation to analytics and reporting.
• Oversee ETL/ELT pipelines integrating data from ecommerce, marketing, operations, supply chain, and internal systems.
• Own and evolve the data warehouse to support analytics, forecasting, experimentation, and executive reporting.
• Partner closely with Data Science and other stakeholders to design and maintain ML-ready datasets, feature pipelines, and data foundations required for forecasting and machine learning use cases.
• Own and maintain data pipelines that support model training, retraining, inference consistency, historical backfills, and long-term reliability as models evolve.
• Build and lead Cozey’s data team over time, including hiring, mentoring, and setting technical direction.
• Act as the senior data voice across the organization, influencing decisions and driving data literacy.

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years of experience in data engineering, analytics, or data platforms, including ownership of an end-to-end data stack.
• Proven experience building and leading a data team or data function from the ground up.
• Experience supporting retail or ecommerce businesses (strongly preferred).
• Deep experience with data modeling and data warehousing (e.g., AWS Redshift, Athena).
• Hands-on experience with ELT/ETL tools such as Fivetran, AWS Glue, Apache Airflow, Step Functions, funnel.io.
• Advanced proficiency in Python and SQL for data transformation, automation, and analysis.
• Experience with BI and visualization tools (e.g., Tableau) and enabling self-serve analytics.
• Strong understanding of data governance, data quality, and regulatory requirements (GDPR, CCPA).
• Experience with AWS infrastructure, including S3, Redshift, and modern cloud data architectures.
• Familiarity with version control, CI/CD, and Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CDK).
• Hands-on experience working with ecommerce and media platform APIs such as Shopify, Google Analytics, Google Ads, Meta Ads, and attribution platforms like Northbeam.
• The ability to balance hands-on execution with strategic leadership and long-term thinking.
