Job Overview
The Senior Reporting Analyst will lead the organization's enterprise reporting strategy and the Sigma business intelligence platform. This role involves collaborating with business leaders to understand their success metrics, developing reports to monitor performance, identify issues, and analyze the operational drivers behind key performance indicators (KPIs). The goal is to establish a unified reporting approach within Sigma that minimizes manual work, standardizes metrics, and ensures a consistent reporting experience across the company.
As the primary subject matter expert for Sigma, the Senior Reporting Analyst will manage the platform's administration, governance, and ongoing development. This includes defining reporting standards, reusable data models, dashboard design guidelines, security protocols, and best practices for development to create a scalable and consistent reporting environment.
Furthermore, the Senior Reporting Analyst will drive the adoption of Sigma throughout the organization by promoting best practices, providing training to business users and report developers, and building self-service reporting capabilities. This position acts as an advocate for modern reporting practices, guiding teams on effective Sigma usage and reducing reliance on manual and spreadsheet-based analysis.
This role is part of the Analytics Engineering organization, which is essential for building robust data pipelines and models that support data-driven decision-making for various analytics, AI, and machine learning initiatives at Coursera.
Responsibilities
- Partner with business leaders to understand organizational objectives, business processes, and how success is measured across different functions.
- Facilitate discussions with business teams to define KPIs and reporting requirements, challenging assumptions and proposing alternative, data-supported approaches.
- Develop reporting frameworks that enable root cause analysis, allowing users to drill down from high-level KPIs to underlying operational metrics and detailed data for trend investigation and performance issue resolution.
- Create solutions that explain performance fluctuations by linking executive metrics to the operational activities and processes that drive them.
- Act as a trusted advisor to business and analytics teams on reporting strategy, data visualization, KPI design, and best practices.
- Collaborate with data scientists, business stakeholders, and product engineers to define, curate, and govern high-fidelity data. Leverage your understanding of KPI interdependencies and their impact on business ROI to bridge data insights and business outcomes.
- Develop new frameworks, such as integrating Sigma with Databricks Unity Catalog or the dbt semantic layer, to ensure robust and high-quality reporting.
- Architect scalable and high-quality data models within Sigma that serve as the foundation for the reporting ecosystem, enabling self-service for end users with ease of access.
- Develop comprehensive documentation, training materials, and best practices to encourage business user adoption of Sigma for self-service reporting.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in developing business intelligence and reporting solutions, with a strong background in data science or business.
- 3+ years of experience in data/analytics engineering, with significant experience connecting data pipelines to end-state reporting.
- 1+ years of experience developing conversational analytics and agentic AI solutions.
- Proven experience working with business end-users, demonstrating a clear understanding of how data informs business decisions and strong data storytelling skills.
- Advanced proficiency with Sigma, including dashboard development, platform administration, governance, and security. Comparable experience with other BI tools like Looker is also considered.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and business teams.
- Solid understanding of KPI development, dimensional data modeling, and reporting design principles.
- High proficiency in SQL and creating reusable data models.
- Extensive experience with tools such as AWS, Databricks, Delta Lake, Airflow, dbt, Redshift, or Datahub. Databricks and dbt are preferred.
- Hands-on experience with AI tools like Claude, Gemini, or Cursor, and their application in streamlining data processing and enabling data democratization.
