The CDS Internship Program

The Costco Digital Services Division is inviting students currently enrolled in an IT or related undergraduate or graduate program at a college or university to participate in a twelve-week paid internship program during 2026. Interns will work within specific areas in Costco’s Information Systems Division. Interns will attend presentations given by various members of Executive Management from IT and other areas of the Company. Interns will be responsible for their own travel and accommodation expenses. Housing is not provided. The program runs mid June to early September and is located in Issaquah, WA. No out of state work allowed. All interns will adhere to the CDS hybrid work model of three days onsite and two days remote.

NOTE: While participating in the IT Internship program, an individual will be classified as an hourly temporary employee for the duration of the program. During the program, the individual may be asked to undergo the normal interview process for a level 1 position. If the individual is offered a position, they will be converted to the employment status matching open job they were selected for. If they are not selected for a regular position, the internship position will be complete in a maximum of twelve weeks.

The CDS IT Architecture Team

The CDS IT Architecture team, composed of experienced enterprise and solution architects, set the strategic and technical direction within our CDS IT organization and deliver the tools and practices to enable best in class solutions. The architects establish top-level architecture strategies, provide clarity on the overall vision, and guide implementation roadmaps for various teams. They serve as principal advisors to peer directors, fostering strategic alignment between IT and business objectives. Solution Architects create IT architecture & design solutions based on business requirements, industry trends, and technology options. Solution Architects are responsible and accountable for the solution architecture in partnership with enterprise architects, domain architects, and engineering teams.

Key responsibilities include, ensuring that IT initiatives are closely aligned with the organization's business goals, providing valuable insights for strategic decision-making and optimizing the IT infrastructure for cost efficiency and innovation. The team also plays a crucial role in risk reduction and compliance, protecting the organization from potential threats and ensuring business continuity.

By integrating new technologies and driving digital transformation, the Architecture team enables the organization to respond quickly to market changes and stay competitive. They collaborate with solution delivery teams, business and solution architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure that the organization's IT systems support the overall business strategy, leading to more efficient and effective operations.

Your Role as a CDS Intern - Enterprise Architecture

  • Works with stakeholders to identify solutions that support their business requirements.
  • Works independently and within a team environment.
  • Pays attention to detail, self motivated with the ability to follow instructions and completes assignments on time.
  • Learns and applies new concepts, processes, and tools.
  • Takes initiative to solve problems and multi-tasks by prioritizing projects and deadlines.
  • Communicates effectively with team members, stakeholders, and all levels of management.
  • Researches solution capabilities, mining for AI related features.
  • Engages in content management and curation of architectural principles, policies, reference, and other documentation. Publishing and gap identification.
  • Participates in engineering tooling program enablement - delivery team story refinement and backlog grooming, internal advocacy resulting in ‘marketing’ plan and deliveries.
  • Learns domain architecture process and deliverable support by working closely with Domain Architect to enable required deliverables.

Required Qualifications

  • Familiarity with concepts in enterprise architecture, such as business capability modeling, application portfolio management, and systems integration.
  • Knowledge or interest in Azure DevOps/ServiceNow/Jira or similar project management tools.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess good organizational, time, and project management skills, with the ability to prioritize, and stay well organized.
  • Currently maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Students currently enrolled in an IT or related undergraduate or graduate program at a community college, college or university.

Recommended Qualifications

  • Basic conceptual understanding of EA terminology such as Reference, Target architectures and principles.
  • Knowledge of cloud computing platforms, such as Azure or GCP.
  • Problem-solving abilities, particularly in identifying and mitigating potential security risks.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards.
  • Proficient in Google Workspace applications, including Sheets, Docs, Slides, and Gmail.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay Ranges: $31.90/hr.
