Your Impact

This is a part-time contract position, expected to run approximately 2–4 months with a workload of 10–15 hours per week, varying based on program needs and consultant capacity.

As a German Language Machine Learning Instructional Content Developer, you will create high-quality training materials in German for a module focused on writing for labeling workflows in machine learning data annotation. This role is ideal for native German writers who understand (or can quickly learn) modern annotation tasks such such as text classification, NER, span annotation, safety/toxicity, and dialogue evaluation. You will translate complex operational requirements into clear, engaging lessons.

The content produced must exemplify excellent annotation writing, featuring clear rationales, precise language, concise comments, and structured responses. You will collaborate closely with our internal program team to develop session plans, learning activities, examples, and assessments aligned with defined learning outcomes.

A Day in the Life

  • Develop German-language lessons and instructional materials for Module 3 – Writing for Labeling (5 sessions), covering:
    • Text analysis and dialogue evaluation (quality/helpfulness/safety)
    • Grammar and sentence structure for annotation writing
    • Sentence precision (conciseness, tone, active vs. passive voice, avoiding hedging)
    • Prompt understanding and structured response writing
    • Writing workshop materials (drills, feedback guidance, revision activities)
  • Produce complete content packages per session, as applicable, including:
    • Facilitator guide
    • Learner materials
    • “Strong vs. weak” examples
    • Rubrics / evaluation criteria
    • Short knowledge checks or assessments
  • Ensure content is rule-based and audit-ready, anchoring decisions to instructions/SOPs and modeling how to flag ambiguity appropriately (escalation rather than guessing).
  • Review and iterate on content based on internal feedback, peer review, and pilot findings.
  • Participate in weekly and ad hoc meetings with the program team to align on learning objectives, standards, and delivery constraints.
  • (If needed) Support content deployment into our learning platform (training provided).

Your Expertise

  • Native German speaker with exceptional writing and editing skills (C2-level quality).
  • 1+ years of experience in instructional content development, curriculum writing, technical writing, or professional training.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach or explain language concepts clearly (grammar, tone, concision) to adult learners.
  • Familiarity with machine learning data annotation/labeling (text classification, NER, span annotation, safety/toxicity, dialogue evaluation) or closely related AI operations work.
  • Ability to write clear rationales and structured responses using precise, non-subjective language.
  • Comfortable collaborating in English for project alignment (German is required for deliverables).
  • Organized, deadline-reliable, and comfortable working in a remote, fast-moving environment.

Nice to have:

  • Experience creating content for AI/ML workforce training programs.
  • Experience with annotation tools or workflows.
  • Experience using AI writing tools responsibly with strong quality control.
