Research Analyst at Cook County
The Cook County Sheriff’s Office is seeking a full-time Research Analyst to support the Office of Data Science and Analytics. Under the guidance of the Executive Director of Research, the Research Analyst will collect, clean, and analyze data on jail operations, inmate characteristics, law enforcement strategies, and various other CCSO initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare statistical reports and analyses to inform policy development.
- Analyze data on individuals in custody (IICs) and produce research bulletins.
- Evaluate programs including grant-funded initiatives and court data.
- Assist in research on law enforcement strategies and computer-aided dispatch data.
- Perform various administrative tasks including data verification and report preparation.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Applicants must be skilled in using databases, statistical software (R, STATA, SAS, Python), and Microsoft Office tools. Excellent reporting, analytical and communication skills are required along with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Minimum and Preferred Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Psychology, Behavioral Sciences, Predictive Analytics, Economics, Statistics or a related field is required along with at least one year of data analysis experience using appropriate software. A graduate degree and experience with court systems or criminal justice data is preferred.
