Building Automation Technician
Convergint is seeking an enthusiastic, results-driven, and forward-thinking Building Automation Technician to join our team in Toronto, ON. This is a full-time position where you will provide customer and technical support for basic to complex systems.

What You’ll Do
- Install, program, and test a variety of non-routine building automation systems and equipment.
- Serve as the key interface for technical support and training for customers, ensuring customer satisfaction.
- Refer complex issues to higher levels of support.
- Read blueprints, schematics, manuals, and specifications to determine installation procedures.
- Interpret manuals, schematics, and wiring diagrams to repair equipment using electronic knowledge and standard test instruments.
- Operate systems to demonstrate equipment, commission new systems, analyze performance, and identify malfunctions.
- Write a variety of non-routine programs for systems.
- Consult with supervisors to resolve complex problems in system operation, maintenance, and warranty work.
- Advise supervisors on customer satisfaction, product performance, installation techniques, and product improvement suggestions.
- Execute technical aspects of multiple projects with varying timelines and budgets, including programming, graphics development, start-up, testing, training, documentation, and ongoing support.
- Identify potential project risks, communicate them, and assist in developing strategies to minimize impact and control deviations from cost and deadlines.
- Collaborate with Project Managers and/or supervisors on project coordination, recommend quality improvements, and identify ways to enhance customer satisfaction.
- Complete accurate service reports for customers and Convergint for invoicing and job cost tracking.
- Provide technical support to end users.
- Seek technical guidance from experienced staff or vendors when needed.
- Act as a mentor to other staff members, providing guidance on testing, tuning, and adjusting equipment for optimal performance.
- Act as “our customer’s best service provider” to ensure Convergint is the customer’s first choice for service.
What You’ll Need
- Exceptional customer focus and ability to work under pressure.
- Ability to anticipate and address customer needs proactively.
- Solid technical skills and experience with electronic security systems.
- Strong programming skills and a proven ability to troubleshoot and find solutions.
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently with general supervision.
- Solid mechanical and electrical aptitude, including proficiency with hand and power tools.
- Frequent site visits required; minimal overnight travel.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple service needs concurrently.
- Proficient computer skills, including MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel).
Requirements
- Minimum of three to five years of previous BAS project experience.
- Diploma in Electronics preferred.
- Industry-specific certifications (Schneider, Distech, Alerton, Tridium, Honeywell) are a plus.
