Role Overview

The Vice President, Artificial Intelligence provides enterprise-wide leadership for Artificial Intelligence strategy, governance, and adoption across the organization. This role defines how AI is evaluated and deployed, to improve clinical outcomes, operational efficiency, and the patient and customer experience. This position combines strategy and leadership of AI-driven innovation to support the organization's overall goals. The VP, AI partners closely with the data organization to ensure AI initiatives are built on high-quality, governed data while maintaining focus on responsible AI practices, healthcare regulatory alignment, and measurable business impact. The role oversees all AI initiatives, establishes AI ethics and governance standards, drives enterprise wide AI literacy and adoption. Plus, this person will be responsible for establishing policies and procedures governing the delivery of quality artificial intelligence services.

Responsibilities

  • Further develop and execute the enterprise AI strategy aligned with organizational goals, healthcare industry requirements, and emerging technology capabilities
  • Oversee all AI initiatives and projects across the organization, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and responsible deployment standards
  • Oversee AI governance, ethics, and responsible AI frameworks with specific attention to patient safety, clinical risk, bias prevention, and regulatory compliance
  • Evaluate, recommend, and oversee adoption of AI technologies and platforms including generative AI, clinical decision support, predictive analytics, and intelligent automation
  • Drive AI adoption across business functions including clinical operations, revenue cycle, workforce optimization, referral management, and customer experience
  • Partner with the data organization to ensure AI initiatives have access to high-quality, governed data and that AI-generated insights inform enterprise data strategy
  • Establish AI literacy and change management programs to accelerate responsible adoption across clinical, operational, and administrative functions
  • Monitor the healthcare AI regulatory landscape including HIPAA implications, FDA guidance on AI/ML-based software, and emerging state and federal AI legislation
  • Define and track AI performance metrics, return on investment, and business impact across all deployed initiatives
  • Collaborate with clinical, operational, sales and technology leadership to identify high-value AI use cases and maintain a prioritized AI portfolio
  • Evaluate and manage relationships with AI technology vendors, research partners, and healthcare AI ecosystem participants
  • Develop and maintain the organization’s AI risk management framework including model validation, bias detection, explainability, and ongoing monitoring
  • Collaborates with other members of the executive management team to align AI strategy and direction with the overall goals of the organization
  • Present AI strategy, progress, and outcomes to the executive leadership team and Board of Directors

Qualifications

  • Education Level: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems/Technology, Data Science, or other related field will be required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Seven or more years of progressive leadership experience in AI/ML strategy and delivery, with at least three years in a senior or executive role directing enterprise AI programs.
  • Demonstrated experience leading enterprise AI initiatives in healthcare or healthcare-adjacent organizations, with understanding of clinical workflows, regulatory constraints, and patient safety considerations.
  • Track record of deploying AI solutions at scale in regulated industries with measurable clinical, operational, or financial outcomes.
  • Experience establishing AI governance frameworks, responsible AI practices, and ethics standards within a large enterprise.
  • Experience partnering with data governance and data platform organizations to ensure AI initiatives are supported by high-quality, governed, and compliant data.
  • Experience building and leading high-performing AI teams including data scientists, ML engineers, and AI product managers.
  • Experience navigating healthcare regulatory requirements as they relate to AI including HIPAA, FDA guidance on AI/ML-based software, and emerging AI legislation.
  • Experience driving organizational change management and AI adoption across both technical and non-technical stakeholders in large, diverse business settings.
