About the Role: Compliance Manager - Retail General Insurance
We are exclusively recruiting for a leading general insurance firm seeking a Compliance Manager - Retail General Insurance. This pivotal role involves advising the Board on critical compliance matters, including regulatory changes, providing first-line compliance support, and developing the Annual Compliance Plan. You will also serve as the Data Protection Officer (DPO), with external consultancy support available when needed. Reporting directly to the Managing Director (who also holds CF16 & CF17 responsibilities), you'll enjoy autonomy in managing your schedule and work environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Production of Compliance packs for bi-monthly board meetings.
- Attendance at bi-monthly SYSC meetings.
- Completion of Annual SMCR declarations.
- Allocation and sample testing of file and call audits.
- Submission of FCA regulatory returns.
- Execution of IAR annual checks.
- Oversight of sanctions checking.
- Approval of financial promotions.
- Handling complaints in conjunction with approved persons.
- Conducting compliance inductions.
- Managing SMCR updates due to staff changes.
- Notifying regulators such as the FCA and ICO as required.
- Management of Insurer and MGA Terms of Business Agreements (TOBAs).
- Overseeing the new Insurer/MGA process.
- Approvals for Investment Adviser Representatives (IAR).
Candidate Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess at least three years of experience in general insurance compliance. A strong working knowledge of FCA regulations, including SYSC, SMCR, and Consumer Duty principles, is essential. Proven experience in managing compliance activities, including monitoring and reporting processes, is also required.
Work Arrangement
This is a hybrid role, requiring 3 days per week in the office. You can choose to work from either the City of London or Surrey offices, with occasional visits to other offices as needed. The company promotes a progressive culture where you are empowered to set your own schedule and plan your days, free from micromanagement (subject to pre-planned meetings).
