Job Description
About Compass
At Compass, our mission is to help everyone find their place in the world. Founded in 2012, we’re revolutionizing the real estate industry with our end-to-end platform that empowers residential real estate agents to deliver exceptional service to seller and buyer clients.
Role Overview
This is a fully onsite role reporting into one of our 18 offices located in Chicagoland. You will spend a significant portion of your time meeting clients and prospects in the field. While administrative and team collaboration tasks will take place at our office, your primary focus will be building relationships and driving revenue through in-person interactions. Our Strategic Growth team is the face of the company and the engine of our market expansion. As a Strategic Growth Manager, you are directly responsible for driving net-new revenue. The SGM’s role is to bring top producing agents to Compass by effectively selling the Compass value proposition (technology, marketing, culture and growth). Successful SGMs influence top agents to leave their current brokerage and join Compass.
Key Responsibilities and Metrics
This is a quota-carrying role. Your quota per quarter is metric’d by the amount of Gross Commission Income (GCI) you successfully bring to Compass. GCI quantifies an agent's production in the prior 12-month period. Deal sizes range from $200k - $3M+, with an average time to close of about 30 days. You can meet quota by bringing on individual agents or large agent teams. Your quota is based on the prior 12 months' performance of that agent or team, not their future production at Compass. You are tasked with helping agents understand why their business and clients will benefit from moving to Compass.
Nuances of the Role
This is a humanized sale, dealing directly with decision-makers. Think of every agent as the CEO of their own business, requiring empathy and the ability for quick decisions. Successfully decoupling an agent from their prior brokerage, where their identity may be wrapped up, takes outstanding patience, listening, agility, and focus. The role demands high IQ and EQ, with successful individuals coming from diverse backgrounds such as investment banking, management consulting, law, and enterprise sales. Our SGMs conservatively generate 15x more revenue per head than top tech firms.
Qualifications
- B.A. or B.S. with 5+ years of relevant experience
- Strong interpersonal skills, glass-half-full mentality
- Self-starter attitude and ability to exercise judgment and solve difficult problems without direct supervision
- Excellent communication skills; ability to effectively lead client meetings and presentations
- Highly organized; ability to multi-task and handle multiple deadlines simultaneously
- Track record of excellence across strategic, operational, and detail-demanding functional responsibilities
Compensation and Benefits
The base pay range for this position is $100,000-$110,000 annually, with a potential bonus target of $30,000-$60,000 and potential for upside. Pay may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Restricted stock units may be provided, in addition to a full range of benefits including participation in incentive programs, paid time off, medical, dental, vision, 401(k), FSAs, commuter program, life and disability insurance, Maven, Carrot, UrbanSitter, Employee Assistance Program, and pet insurance.
Our Culture
At Compass, we believe that everyone deserves to find their place in the world — a place where they feel like they belong, where they can be their authentic selves, where they can thrive. Our collaborative, energetic culture is grounded in our Compass Entrepreneurship Principles and our commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, growth, and mobility. As an equal opportunity employer, we offer competitive compensation packages, robust benefits, and professional growth opportunities.
