Clinical Nurse Coordinator Endoscopy
Columbia University Irving Medical Center is seeking a Clinical Nurse Coordinator III (RN) for their Endoscopy Midtown location.
Position Summary
The Clinical Coordinator III will function as an endoscopy nurse, reporting to the Medical Director and Nurse Manager, and administratively to the Divisional and Practice Administrators. This role involves providing comprehensive nursing care to patients and families within the endoscopy suite at ColumbiaDoctors Midtown. Key responsibilities include providing nursing expertise during procedures and recovery, and offering coverage for endoscopy technicians as needed.
Responsibilities
- Assess patients prior to consultation and treatment.
- Obtain intake history, perform physical assessments, review lab results, provide discharge instructions, patient education, and monitor follow-up appointments.
- Safely administer medications and intravenous fluids according to physician orders and nursing standards.
- Establish intravenous access for medication and fluid administration.
- Administer IV medications as ordered by the physician.
- Perform physical, psychological, and cognitive status assessments.
- Monitor patient vital signs, comfort, and clinical status during procedures and recovery, recording data.
- Perform pre-procedural assessments, including sedation levels and pharmacology of sedative and reversal agents.
- Monitor patients, recognize complications, provide basic life support, and manage airway and vital signs.
- Provide recovery room coverage as required.
- Cover for endoscopy technicians and re-process endoscopes when necessary.
- Identify and correct problems, reporting critical occurrences to the appropriate authority.
- Maintain medication and security records for each patient.
- Assist the Nurse Manager in maintaining safety equipment (AED, crash cart).
- Assist the Nurse Manager with medication, syringe, and catheter inventory maintenance and storage.
- Assist the Nurse Manager in maintaining records for outpatient endoscopy suite accreditation.
- Assist the Nurse Manager in monitoring medical supply usage and coordinating restocking.
- Support the Nurse Manager in ensuring efficient patient flow.
- Conduct courtesy calls to patients the day after endoscopy.
- Adhere to HIPAA, OSHA, Infection Control, and safety guidelines.
