Job Description

Junior Risk Analyst

Columbia University Facilities & Operations is seeking a motivated Junior Risk Analyst to support the Department of Public Safety. This role provides crucial data, statistical, and pattern analysis to aid operational, investigative, and administrative functions.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in collecting and organizing data to identify patterns and trends.
  • Prepare initial data summaries and contribute to reports under supervision.
  • Support data analysis by running queries, maintaining datasets, and compiling key metrics.
  • Create charts, graphics, maps, and spreadsheets to visualize criminal operations or activities.
  • Monitor social media to analyze potential impacts on the University.
  • Conduct basic data analysis and open-source research to identify preliminary patterns and trends.
  • Gather information on social media trends and compare it with incident data.
  • Perform research tasks to support suspect development and trend identification.
  • Prepare initial drafts of analytical products like intelligence summaries and bulletins.
  • Review and summarize Daily Activity Reports to support intelligence bulletins.
  • Assist in producing crime and intelligence products, supporting senior analysts.
  • Compile information for decision-maker presentations.
  • Support compliance efforts by following established procedures.
  • Conduct supervised social media checks and review open-source information.
  • Maintain awareness of current crime trends and tools through training and learning.
  • Help maintain communication with regional partners and crime analysis centers.
  • Assist with onboarding new employees by providing basic orientation.
  • Use software tools including Microsoft Office, Adobe Pro, and ArcGIS for research and reporting.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • 2-4 years of related professional security or law enforcement experience.
  • Motivated, organized, and detail-oriented with good judgment and discretion.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
  • Capacity to plan, handle deviations, and apply varied processes and methods.
  • Ability to make informed decisions amidst uncertainty and develop new techniques.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Strong computer skills, including high proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Word, Adobe Pro, SSRS, ArcGIS, TLO, Whooster, Lead-On-Line, Tyler Technology, etc.
  • Proven ability to work in a client-service environment.
  • Writing skills assessment may be required.
