About the Software Engineer Intern Role at Coinbase
Coinbase is seeking Software Engineer Interns for a 12-week program during summer 2026. This role is crucial in building the next generation of crypto-forward products and features, specifically contributing to Base, Coinbase's Ethereum Layer 2 network, which aims to bring a million developers and a billion users onchain. Interns will tackle unique, large-scale, and highly complex technical challenges, bridging web-scale applications with blockchain technology.
You will play a vital part in making cryptocurrency accessible globally, working with real-time applications, high-frequency updates, low-latency systems, and managing secure, dockerized infrastructure in the cloud.
Product Group Teams (Internship Location = San Francisco)
Applicants will have the opportunity to specify their top team choice within the Product Group organization. Your application will be primarily considered for your selected team. Please review the descriptions below:
- Base: As a Base engineer, you'll create seamless integrations, fiat onramps, and tools for Coinbase's secure, low-cost, and developer-friendly Ethereum Layer 2 network, built on the open-source OP Stack.
- Consumer: Focus on building the easiest and fastest way to access crypto through the Coinbase retail app, including advanced trade, dApps, and staking, with a goal to become the #1 self-custody wallet.
- Developer: Empower builders with tools like Wallet-as-a-Service (WaaS) and Coinbase Cloud, offering API-based access to multiple blockchain networks and Web3 APIs, services, and infrastructure.
- Institutional: Power Coinbase's business for thousands of large financial institutions, enabling secure digital asset custody and participation in the crypto economy through scalable platforms and cutting-edge technologies.
- Platform: Create the scalable, compliant, and trusted foundational systems that underpin all Coinbase products, ensuring high-quality user experiences and leveraging machine learning for intelligent automation.
What You'll Be Doing
- Write high-quality, well-tested code that addresses customer needs effectively.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate product and technical vision into a tangible roadmap.
