This role leads one of the Data Platform teams within the Platform Product Group, dedicated to building a trusted, scalable, and compliant platform. The group's mission is to maximize velocity, efficiency, and quality by establishing foundational elements used across various Coinbase products, ensuring users receive a consistent and high-quality experience.

What you’ll be doing

• Build and manage engineering teams, guiding the development of features, services, and infrastructure.
• Coach direct reports to positively impact the organization and support their career growth.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to translate vision into a tangible quarterly roadmap.
• Break down complex projects into smaller pieces and lead iterative design and implementation.
• Be a thoughtful technical voice, aiding in diligent architectural decisions and fostering a culture of high-quality code and engineering processes.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to ensure successful delivery and operation of multi-tenanted, distributed systems at scale.
• Work closely with the talent organization to identify and recruit exceptional engineers aligning with Coinbase's culture.
• Contribute to and take ownership of processes driving engineering quality and meeting engineering SLAs.

What We Look For In You

• 9+ years of experience managing critical datastores infrastructure with high transaction throughput, production reliability, big migration, and technology evolution.
• Track record of architecting and scaling databases with partitioning, sharding, distributed DB, caching, and router/proxy.
• Hands-on practice with Relational & NoSQL databases and relevant engines such as Postgres, MongoDB, DynamoDB, Redis, ElasticSearch.
• Real-world experience in designing scale-out infrastructure and triaging performance/reliability issues in a distributed environment.
• Leadership in advancing developer experience/velocity and enforcing standards via self-service tools.
• Proven experience managing infrastructure budget, contracts, and vendors for efficiency, optimization, and evolution roadmap.
• Effective communication of technical aspects, guidelines, and tradeoffs to service/product teams and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to build and nurture multiple sub-teams with a big vision/roadmap, “can do” spirit, and practical dependency & priorities.
