Overview

At Coinbase, our mission is to increase economic freedom by building an emerging onchain platform and the future global financial system. As a Senior Software Engineer Backend, you will help define the x402 protocol, develop robust payment infrastructure, and work with high caliber colleagues in an intense, feedback-driven environment.

What You Will Do

  • Define the x402 protocol standard for internet-native payments
  • Build and maintain x402 related products including SDKs and onchain payment systems
  • Collaborate with open-source contributors via GitHub

What We Look For

  • 6+ years of backend development experience; crypto experience is a plus
  • Strong ability to build scalable and secure software
  • Proficiency with Golang, Typescript, and Python
  • Knowledge of Web3, stablecoins, smart contracts, and wallets

Nice to Haves

  • Experience with AI and emerging AI protocol standards (MCP, A2A)
  • Track record in impactful open-source projects

Additional Information

This role requires in-person participation throughout the year with multiple team offsites for collaboration. Compensation includes bonus, equity eligibility, and comprehensive benefits.
