Data Annotation Specialist, Investment Banking & Private Equity

Cohere's mission is to scale intelligence to serve humanity. We are dedicated to training and deploying frontier models for developers and enterprises building AI systems that power magical experiences like content generation, semantic search, RAG, and agents. We believe our work is instrumental to the widespread adoption of AI, and we obsess over what we build. Each team member contributes to increasing our models' capabilities and the value they drive for customers, working hard and moving fast to achieve the best results.

Cohere comprises a passionate team of researchers, engineers, designers, and more, each being among the best in their field. We are committed to fostering a diverse range of perspectives, essential for building great products. Join us to shape the future of AI!

Why Join as a Data Annotation Specialist?

We are building machines that understand the world and making them safely accessible to all. Data quality is foundational to this process, as Large Language Models learn through feedback, similar to humans. In this role, you will significantly impact Cohere’s technology by labeling, ranking, auditing, and correcting text output, thereby improving LLM performance for future iterations.

Your focus will be on financial modeling and finance-based questions. You will teach the Cohere model how to perform across a variety of different financial functions and logic.

Please Note: This is a part-time contract position requiring a commitment of 16 hours per week at a $30/hour contract rate. This role is available within Canada only and requires you to Bring Your Own Device (laptop).

Key Responsibilities of an AI Data Trainer:

  • Evaluate the model’s ability to respond to objective financial queries (you will not be giving financial advice).
  • Write financial prompts along with verified information to evaluate the accuracy of the model’s responses.
  • Label, proofread, and improve machine-written and human-written financial outputs.
  • Follow our style guide, and make recommendations on unique situations that fall outside of its scope.
  • Evaluating financial models in Excel.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

  • 5+ years of industry experience working in equity research, corporate finance, M&A, private equity, or corporate development.
  • Financial analysis training and experience preferred.
  • CFA is a plus.
  • An educational background in finance (Bachelors, Masters or similar).
  • Experience interpreting complex financial statements, earning decks, charts, and graphs.
  • Experience with preparing and understanding financial statements, key metrics, and business acumen.
  • Experience with risk analysis processes.
  • Experience with financial modeling/analysis that informs strategic decision-making.
  • You are an expert in Excel and/or VBA.

The Candidate Journey at Cohere:

  • Initial Screening: Our Talent Team will review your resume and writing samples after application submission.
  • Multiple Choice Finance Test: A test assessing your financial knowledge.
  • Finance/Investment Analysis Written Test: An online test evaluating your financial/investment analysis skillset through written and in-depth questions.
  • Video Interview: A short video call with a member of our Operations Team if selected to move forward.
  • Offer: Independent Contractor Agreement.

Prospective candidates, please be advised: this role may involve exposure to Not Safe For Work (NSFW) content, including explicit, offensive, or other inappropriate material.

Even if some of the above doesn’t line up perfectly with your experience, we still encourage you to apply! We value and celebrate diversity, striving to create an inclusive work environment. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are committed to providing equal opportunities. Should you require any accommodations during the recruitment process, please submit an Accommodations Request Form, and we will work together to meet your needs.
