Role Summary

Cloudera is looking for exceptional Staff Software Engineers to own and deliver maintenance releases for Cloudera’s data platforms and ship hotfixes to customers. This role offers a hands-on opportunity with Hadoop, deep dive into big data use cases, and engage with the vibrant Apache Software Foundation community with potential to become a committer.

Responsibilities

  • Drive maintenance releases by performing system test analysis, delivering backports, and developing new patches.
  • Debug system level deployment issues through root cause analysis and resolve failures.
  • Work with Java and Python across multiple components, test frameworks, and automation tools.
  • Gain deep technical knowledge of Hadoop components across the Cloudera stack.
  • Improve internal infrastructure and dedicate 20% of time to upstream open source development.

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Computer Science or related field.
  • 7+ years of development experience with Java and/or Python.
  • Experience in Linux environments and strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Interest or experience in distributed computing or high availability systems is a plus.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience with Big Data, NoSQL, or distributed databases.
  • Previous contributions to open source projects.
  • Familiarity with test automation practices.
