Job Description
About Clio
Clio is the global leader in legal AI technology, empowering legal professionals and law firms of every size to work smarter, faster, and more securely. We are transforming the legal experience for all by bettering the lives of legal professionals while increasing access to justice.
Summary
We are seeking a Senior Product Designer to join our growing Product Design team. This role is available to candidates across Canada (excluding Quebec) and the US. If you are located near one of our hubs (Burnaby, Calgary, or Toronto), you will be expected to work in the office a minimum of twice per week on our designated Anchor Days.
Design plays a pivotal role at Clio, standing alongside Product and Engineering as one of the three pillars of our Research and Development organization. Our product designers work directly with customers to understand their behaviors, needs, and workflows. They champion thoughtful, high-quality experiences as we transform how lawyers and their teams serve their clients. If you’re focused on shipping value to customers with an opportunity to revolutionize an industry, you’ve found your next team.
What Your Team Does
Clio is building the future of legal work in Clio Work—an AI-powered workspace where legal professionals do the work their clients pay for. As part of the Clio Docket team, you’ll be a part of the broader Clio Work organization who will transform the practice of law.
Dockets are at the heart of many legal workflows, such litigation strategy, calendaring, research, business development, and calculating legal risk. The Clio Docket team aims to provide coverage across every litigation docket, with rich content, deep analysis, and easy-to-use workflows that can be picked up by any legal professional without training.
As a Senior Product Designer on Clio Docket, you’ll own a complex and evolving problem space in Clio Work and help shape how docket data and workflows connect across Clio experiences. You’ll work in a dedicated triad (Product + Engineering + Design) and collaborate closely with partner designers especially on adjacent experiences like Library (a key entry point into docket data) and Courts-related workflows.
You’ll reimagine the content, analysis, and workflow engine that helps firms of any size navigate litigation in smarter, more optimized, and more autonomous ways. You’ll lead the end-to-end design process, from strategic discovery and opportunity framing through development, launch, and ongoing iteration. Ideal candidates will ground decisions in deep customer understanding, translate ambiguity into clear direction, and partner tightly with Product and Engineering to drive meaningful business and customer outcomes. You’ll launch to learn with high-impact features, raising quality and coherence across our product ecosystem, and demonstrating strong judgment in designing intelligent AI automation that is trustworthy, explainable, and appropriately controlled.
What You’ll Do
- Partner with Product and Engineering to define and execute on experience design strategy and success metrics, using research and insights to prioritize what matters most to customers and the business.
- Build strong customer intuition through direct engagement, and advocate for customer needs in trade-offs, sequencing, and cross-functional decision-making.
- Lead end-to-end experiences for docket workflows in Clio Work - from early discovery and vision crafting, to prototyping, testing, and polished execution.
- Raise the quality bar through polished, accessible, and cohesive experiences and push beyond “good enough” toward best-in-class interaction design.
- Strengthen systems and patterns across the product by contributing design system improvements, identifying gaps, and influencing consistency beyond your immediate scope.
- Drive alignment through crisp storytelling, clear decision framing, and proactive collaboration across cross-functional teams, especially with your Clio Library and Clio Courts counterparts.
- Strengthen the team through constructive critique, mentoring through example, and consistent bar-raising execution.
What You Bring
- 6+ years of experience designing digital products, B2B SaaS experience is preferred, but not required.
- A portfolio that shows an ability to design scalable experiences across multiple customer segments (e.g. Solo, SMB, and Mid-Market) and/or cross-product / horizontal workflow experiences (your work meaningfully affects multiple surfaces, teams, or products).
- High-quality visual and UI craft (typography, hierarchy, spacing, interaction details).
- Proven track record of shipping high-quality work that solves customer problems and moves key product metrics.
- Strong craft across interaction design, information architecture, and usability with consistently high-quality execution.
- Strong customer-centric practice, with the ability to translate customer insight into actionable design direction.
- Experience designing AI-powered features or workflows, with a strong understanding of user-centered applications of machine learning and generative AI.
- Highly capable in design and prototyping tools and solid use of AI tools in your process (e.g. Gemini, Figma Make, Cursor, Claude, etc.) You don’t need to be an expert but you should be genuinely motivated to learn and experiment.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, including clear articulation of rationale and trade-offs.
- A collaborative, low-ego partner — you facilitate alignment, clarify trade-offs, and drive confident execution.
- Growth mindset when it comes to process improvement and new technologies, especially AI.
Bonus if you have…
- Experience in legal tech or similarly technical industry, with a proven ability to turn complex cross-product workflows into intuitive, high-impact experiences.
- Strong information architecture and content/system thinking especially where data needs to be discoverable and usable across multiple entry points.
- Prior experience improving retention/activation through iterative product improvements post-MVP.
- Background in classic graphic design fundamentals (typography systems, layout discipline).
This role is a backfill for an existing position.
