Job Description

Senior Development Manager at Clio

Clio is the global leader in legal AI technology, empowering legal professionals and law firms of every size to work smarter, faster, and more securely. We are transforming the legal experience for all by bettering the lives of legal professionals while increasing access to justice.

Summary

We are currently seeking a Senior Development Manager to join our Engineering team. This role is available to candidates across Canada and the US. If you are local to one of our hubs (Burnaby, Calgary, or Toronto) you will be expected to be in office minimum twice per week on one of our Anchor Days.

At Clio we strive to be both human and high performing. For Senior Development Managers that means growing and supporting a team of managers and individual contributors and also partnering with senior leadership to define the strategy and long term vision of their area of ownership. Our Senior Development Managers are highly technical and hands on, often coding, designing, and reviewing alongside their teams. They coach and build their teams to be both strong technically and as team members. They create a safe and productive environment for all.

What You’ll Work On

  • Roll up your sleeves and deep dive into the technology & code to get things done and help managers & developers better understand what is possible.
  • Directly supervise, mentor, and collaborate with engineering managers and individual contributors who are in the thick of it every day.
  • Partner with leadership in Product Management and Product Design to envision, develop, and execute on our product roadmap.
  • Work closely with the Recruiting/People team to actively recruit and hire top talent to support Clio’s ambitious growth plans for its engineering department.

About you

  • Experienced engineering leader who's still comfortable pushing code to production when necessary.
  • Proven track record in scaling services and systems with experience in projects built for scalability.
  • Adept at managing and mentoring high-performing teams, nurturing talent, and guiding individuals toward professional growth and development.
  • Experienced in crafting long-term strategies and managing technical roadmaps that pave the way for future growth.
  • Successful running agile organizations at scale, with a sense of urgency to deliver quality software to solve customer problems.
  • Demonstrated experience in promoting positive culture and diversity throughout a large engineering organization to achieve transformational change.
  • Growth mindset when it comes to process improvement and new technologies, especially AI.

This role is a backfill for an existing position.

What you will find here

Compensation is one of the main components of Clio’s Total Rewards Program. We have developed a series of programs and processes to ensure we are creating fair and competitive pay practices that form the foundation of our human and high-performing culture.

Compensation and Benefits

The expected salary range for this role is $192,000 to $288,000 CAD. There are a separate set of salary bands for other regions based on local currency. In addition, this role is eligible for variable pay that is based on company performance, with actual payout amounts calculated and paid on a quarterly basis. Our salary bands are designed to reflect the range of skills and experience needed for the position and to allow room for growth at Clio. For experienced individuals, we typically hire at or around the midpoint of the band. The top portion of the salary band is reserved for employees who demonstrate sustained high performance and impact at Clio. Those who are new to the role may join below the midpoint and develop their skills over time. The final offer amount for this role will be dependent on geographical region, applicable experience, and skillset of the candidate.

  • Competitive, equitable salary with top-tier health benefits, dental, and vision insurance
  • Hybrid work environment, with expectation for local Clions (Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Dublin and Sydney) to be in office minimum twice per week.
  • $2000 annual counseling benefit
  • RRSP matching and RESP contribution
  • Clioversary recognition program with special acknowledgement at 3, 5, 7, and 10 years
