What the job really is

About the Role

This is a high-ownership attorney role at an AI-native legal tech company that combines licensed lawyers with AI agents to deliver fast, fixed-fee contract services to growing tech companies. You'll work directly with clients as an extension of their in-house legal team while partnering with product and engineering to shape how legal services are delivered at scale. The role sits at the intersection of law and technology — equal parts practicing attorney and legal operations innovator.

What You'll Do

  • Review and negotiate commercial contracts, advising clients on product and privacy law matters.

  • Interpret contract terms and surface key obligations, risks, and anomalies for clients.

  • Partner with legal, product, and engineering teams to improve platform speed and accuracy.

  • Identify inefficiencies and patterns in the review process, then design and implement fixes.

  • Standardize and codify recurring contract types, review playbooks, and quality standards.

  • Protect turnaround and SLA commitments while maintaining a high quality bar.

  • Partner with operations to evolve how legal services are delivered as the company scales.

What We're Looking For

  • J.D. with active California bar membership in good standing.

  • 5–8 years of law practice with significant experience supporting technology companies.

  • Prior in-house counsel or sole legal counsel experience — required.

  • Strong expertise in corporate, commercial, product, and privacy law.

  • Experience building and standardizing legal playbooks and review processes.

  • Comfort working with AI-assisted legal workflows, or genuine enthusiasm for legal technology.

  • Exposure to early-stage or venture-backed companies is a plus.

  • Solid grounding in professional responsibility and legal ethics.

  • Thrives in fast-paced, high-ownership environments with ambiguity and urgency.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; impeccable attention to detail.
