Professional Standards Investigator
The Civil Nuclear Constabulary (CNC) is an armed police service dedicated to the nuclear industry, committed to providing world-class protection for nuclear material and facilities. We are seeking skilled and committed professionals to join our Professional Standards Department (PSD).
Role Overview
As a Professional Standards Investigator, you will be responsible for investigating misconduct and complaints against officers and police staff, ensuring adherence to the law and relevant regulations. This critical mobile role involves conducting investigations into serious incidents, including those subject to referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) in England and Wales or the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (PIRC) in Scotland. You will manage cases expeditiously, compliant with IOPC Guidance, and provide formal updates to all involved parties.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct investigations into allegations of misconduct and crime involving police personnel.
- Investigate deaths following police contact and other serious incidents referred to external bodies like IOPC or PIRC.
- Execute investigations within specific timescales, ensuring compliance with Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) Guidance.
- Build and maintain relationships with Operational Policing Units (OPUs) and force departments to identify causes of complaints.
- Work closely with the Force Legal Department to prepare and present evidence for gross misconduct and misconduct hearings.
- Promote equality, diversity, and inclusivity, avoiding discriminatory behaviours.
Requirements
- Proven investigative skills gained within a policing or similar regulated agency role.
- Ability to identify and collate evidence and intelligence effectively.
- Understanding of CPIA/Disclosure responsibilities in criminal or disciplinary investigations.
- Accredited PIP2 Investigator with experience in conducting interviews under PACE.
- Forensic awareness and expertise in exhibit handling.
- Knowledge of the National Intelligence Model.
- Desirable: Knowledge of Police Conduct Regulations and associated legislation/guidance, particularly in a proactive and counter-corruption context.
- Ideal: Experience in PSD investigations with appropriate professional training (SANCUS).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong negotiation and influencing capabilities.
