Senior Pharmacy Technical Assistant

The CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal is actively seeking a Senior Pharmacy Technical Assistant for a full-time, day shift position at the Douglas Mental Health University Institute.

Job Summary

Your mission will be to assist the pharmacist in their specific tasks. More than just a job, you will find a work environment that encourages your professional and personal growth in a friendly atmosphere!

Schedule

Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM or 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM.

Daily Role and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation of oral, topical, or parenteral medications using aseptic techniques and established protocols.
  • Prepare and package medications requiring complex pharmaceutical calculations and specialized techniques, such as sterile injectable preparations in a Solution Additive Center (SCAS) or equivalent service, parenteral nutrition, and antineoplastics.
  • Respond to requests from care units.
  • Enter prescriptions.
  • Utilize technology to support the pharmacist in the continuity of pharmaceutical services.
  • Ensure the safe distribution of medications.
  • Participate in the application of content-content delegation and in certain tasks or projects.
  • Perform any other related tasks.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Possess a Professional Studies Diploma (DEP) in Pharmacy Technical Assistance from a school recognized by the Ministry of Education, Leisure, and Sport, or possess equivalent skills.
  • Knowledge of the international system.
  • Ability to communicate in French and English, both orally and in writing.
  • Familiarity with the Windows environment and the Office suite (Word and Excel).
  • Ability to operate a pharmaceutical information system and a medication packaging machine.
  • Experience in hospital pharmacy is an asset.

All selected candidates will be required to pass a knowledge test covering medical abbreviations, prescription reading and interpretation, pharmaceutical calculations, unit conversion, drug knowledge (state, generic name, brand name), and the legal and regulatory framework surrounding pharmacy work.
