About the Role
The City of Vancouver is seeking a Journeyperson - Heavy Duty Mechanic to join the Fleet and Manufacturing Services team. This role involves servicing a diverse range of vehicles and heavy equipment in a busy, dynamic environment at Manitoba Yards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance and repair on heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
- Conduct routine inspections to ensure roadworthiness.
- Interpret diagrams and manufacturer instructions accurately.
- Requisition parts and materials and supervise subordinate staff as needed.
- Adhere to safety practices in a complex mechanical environment.
Work Environment & Schedule
This position is based at Manitoba Yards with a regular work schedule from 3:10 PM to 12:34 AM on a 9-day fortnight. Flexibility in shifts may be required as per operational demands.
Qualifications
- Heavy Duty Mechanic or Commercial Transport Certificate of Qualifications (T.Q.).
- Inter-Provincial Red Seal Endorsement (preferred).
- Grade 10 education with supplementary technical courses.
- Strong understanding of braking systems and mechanical repair protocols.
Training & Development
