About the Role

The City of Vancouver is seeking a Journeyperson - Heavy Duty Mechanic to join the Fleet and Manufacturing Services team. This role involves servicing a diverse range of vehicles and heavy equipment in a busy, dynamic environment at Manitoba Yards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repair on heavy-duty vehicles and equipment.
  • Conduct routine inspections to ensure roadworthiness.
  • Interpret diagrams and manufacturer instructions accurately.
  • Requisition parts and materials and supervise subordinate staff as needed.
  • Adhere to safety practices in a complex mechanical environment.

Work Environment & Schedule

This position is based at Manitoba Yards with a regular work schedule from 3:10 PM to 12:34 AM on a 9-day fortnight. Flexibility in shifts may be required as per operational demands.

Qualifications

  • Heavy Duty Mechanic or Commercial Transport Certificate of Qualifications (T.Q.).
  • Inter-Provincial Red Seal Endorsement (preferred).
  • Grade 10 education with supplementary technical courses.
  • Strong understanding of braking systems and mechanical repair protocols.
