Account Clerk Position at the City of Niagara Falls
The City of Niagara Falls is seeking an Account Clerk. This position offers a competitive hourly wage of $17.48 - $24.72.
Job Fair Information:
Meet with a Representative in person at the City of Niagara Falls Job Fair:
- Date: April 9th
- Time: 10 AM - 1 PM
- Location: LaSalle Branch Library, Auditorium, 2nd Floor
Residency Requirement: Must be a Niagara Falls, NY resident within 6 months of employment.
Distinguishing Features of the Class:
This role involves detailed accounting clerical work across various City government departments. Responsibilities include routine calculations, posting business transactions, preparing and managing documents, ledgers, vouchers, cost controls, typing, computer data entry, and acting as a Cashier when needed. Work is performed under general supervision and reviewed through spot checks. The incumbent may supervise Junior Account Clerks.
Typical Work Activities:
- Maintain records of cash receipts and sales.
- Contact personnel to outline cost reporting methods.
- Code and post labor, equipment, and material costs.
- Review expense reports for accuracy and compliance.
- Verify and reconcile account balances.
- Prepare payrolls and other account clerk duties.
- Maintain various records (service charges, charts, fuel, maintenance, petty cash).
- Type letters, checks, legal documents, and reports.
- Prepare requisitions and file documents.
- Operate office machines and equipment (copier, calculator, PC, fax, scanner).
- Function as Cashier, accepting payments for taxes, bills, and revenues; compute charges.
- Issue tax certificates, prepare tax arrears forms, and input data for tax registers.
- Prepare and maintain lists of delinquent taxes.
- Accept applications for City property use and Vital Records.
- Review and issue State and City licenses; interact with the public, respond to inquiries and complaints.
- Act as storekeeper for office supplies, maintain inventories and cost records.
- Deal with vendors, research pricing, make purchasing decisions, and expedite orders.
- Perform computer data entry, word processing, spreadsheet, and database development.
- Research and recommend budget figures.
Full Performance Knowledges, Skills, Abilities, and Personal Characteristics:
- Good knowledge of clerical methods for fiscal accounts and records.
- Familiarity with office terminology, procedures, routines, and equipment.
- Good knowledge of business arithmetic and English.
- Skill in typing and keyboarding.
- Ability to follow complex oral and written directions.
- Ability to work well with others.
- Clerical aptitude, mental alertness, good judgment, accuracy, and integrity.
Minimum Qualifications:
EITHER:
- Graduation from a two-year college or university with an Associate's Degree in Business Administration or a related field.
OR:
- Graduation from high school (or equivalent) and two (2) years of experience in maintaining and checking financial accounts and records.
