About the City of New York Police Department

The Fiscal Control Section oversees the processing of payments and revenue receipts, manages banking operations for the Department and reviews special expenses for various commands.

About the Role: Bookkeeper II

The Audits and Accounts Unit is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the role of Bookkeeper II. This position is open to current city employees who are permanent in the civil service title of Bookkeeper. Please indicate on your resume if you are on civil service exam #3117.

Key Responsibilities

  • Vendor Invoicing and Payments: Analyze invoices and supporting documentation to process payments to vendors, track payments, and follow up on outstanding issues.
  • Revenue Collection: Assist in monitoring and managing revenue collection processes to ensure proper recording and accountability.
  • Special Projects: Provide support to the team on any ad hoc projects.

Work Environment and Benefits

This hybrid position is located at 375 Pearl Street, New York, NY 10038, with hours from 9 am-5 pm. Selected candidates are eligible for one remote work day per week once familiar with all work assignments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of 30 semester credits from an accredited college or university, including 6 credits in accounting; OR
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and two years of satisfactory full-time bookkeeping experience; OR
  • A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to the above. College education may substitute experience on a 15 semester credit per year basis. However, all candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, and either 6 semester credits in accounting or 6 months of bookkeeping experience.

To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III, individuals must have, in addition to meeting minimum requirements, at least one year of experience as a Bookkeeper (40526) or four years of satisfactory full-time bookkeeping experience.

Preferred Skills

  • Ability to review, compare, and interpret figures and data.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in FMS, PASSPort, Microsoft Excel, Word, and QuickBooks.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. City Employees in certain titles with 2 continuous years of service may be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
