Job Description
Automated Enforcement Auditor at City of New York
As part of Vision Zero, the Automated Enforcement Unit at the City of New York oversees violation issuance for various enforcement types including red light, speed, mobile speed, fixed bus lane, mobile (MTA) bus lane, and Weigh-in-Motion. The Unit is actively seeking to hire three capable, confident, and dedicated Management Auditor Trainees to join their team, reporting directly to the Auditing Supervisor.
The Automated Enforcement Auditor will play a crucial role in supporting internal audits by conducting detailed reviews, verifications, and ongoing monitoring of the work performed by Automated Enforcement vendors. A primary responsibility will be to ensure that all events captured by the extensive network of over 2,700 enforcement cameras are accurately transmitted to NYCDOT for subsequent review and processing.
NYCDOT processes more than 35,000 events daily. These events undergo review by NYCDOT processors who determine whether they should be approved or rejected. Approved events result in violations issued to registered vehicle owners, along with associated fines. Rejected events require thorough examination to confirm that the vendor has provided complete and appropriate information justifying the rejection.
Successful candidates for the Automated Enforcement Auditor position will meticulously review photographs and videos captured by enforcement cameras citywide. They will determine if the contractor’s rejection decisions were appropriate or if these events should have been forwarded to NYCDOT for processing as violations.
This position may offer eligibility for remote work for up to two days per week, in accordance with the Remote Work Pilot Program established between the City and DC37. Please note, new hires are generally required to reside in NYC for the first two years of employment, and appointments are subject to OMB approval. New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment, though exceptions may apply for employees with two continuous years of City service who reside in specific surrounding counties.
