Project Management Overview
This is professional project management work dealing with the planning, designing, construction and coordinating the activities of building and other vertical capital projects for the Office of Capital Improvements (OCI) to ensure that goals and objectives are accomplished within prescribed time frames and funding parameters.
Work involves considerable independent judgment in the application of the principles and practices of planning, designing, construction, and coordinating a variety of vertical OCI projects. Supervision is exercised over architects, engineers, and construction professionals. Work is reviewed for general adherence to established guidelines and procedures. Reports to the department director or his/her designee.
Key Responsibilities
- Reviews vertical capital project proposals to determine project time frame, funding, procedures required to complete the project, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources for various phases of the project.
- Reviews status reports prepared by project personnel and modifies schedules or plans as required.
- Prepares project reports for the director or designee.
- Provides on-site project support as required.
- Visits and inspects project sites during different phases ensuring compliance with building plans and codes.
- Confers with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems.
- Provides direction and administration of design and construction projects through architects, engineers and contractors.
- Plans, assigns and reviews the work of professional staff to ensure success in the monitoring of the work of architectural and engineering consultants and contractors engaged in the design and construction of a variety of simple, moderate, and high-end city structures and related vertical projects.
- Conducts research of past practices, prepares reports and provides recommendations.
- Provides input into the development of the division’s budget and other special projects, as assigned.
- Coordinates project activities with activities of other governmental agencies.
- Collaborates and works with the City of Miami Building Department, DERM, WASA, FPL, and other federal agencies to expedite permits.
- Performs other related work as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Management.
- Considerable four (4) years experience in the design, construction, or project management of the design or construction of buildings or other vertical projects.
- Active/Inactive registration as a Professional Engineer or Registered Architect or General Contractors license in the State of Florida is desirable.
- A Valid Driver's License from any state (Equivalent to a State of Florida Class E or higher) may be utilized upon application; prior to appointment a State of Florida Driver's License (Class E or higher) must be presented.
- Experience in the area of public safety facilities, municipal building projects, and/or city parks improvements is desirable.
OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience beyond a high school diploma, or its equivalent and two (2) years of the required experience mentioned above.
