About the Role

San Francisco is a vibrant city on the forefront of growth and innovation. As a Library Technical Assistant I, you will perform various routine phases of technical library work in accordance with well-defined policies and procedures. Your tasks include processing orders, charge and discharge of library materials, assisting patrons, preliminary cataloging, record keeping and technical support for library systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process orders, overdue accounts, library card applications, and material requests.
  • Assist patrons in person, over the phone, and by correspondence.
  • Conduct preliminary cataloging, file management, and assign Cutter numbers.
  • Support routine library operations including circulation and inventory.
  • Operate and troubleshoot the Library website, intranet, and electronic media systems.

Supervision and Teamwork

You will receive supervision from a Librarian or Library Technical Assistant II and may act as a lead for clerical personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualification can be achieved by an Associate's degree in Library Information Technology, completion of a certificate program with one year of experience, or two years of full-time verifiable library work experience.

Selection Process

Applicants must complete an online application and preliminary questionnaire. A computer-based multiple-choice examination will evaluate job-related knowledge and skills. Passing the exam places you on an eligible list for up to 12 months.

Additional Information
