Role Description: Public Relations Intern

The Public Relations Intern at Citizen Relations is a highly self-motivated individual providing essential daily support across various client projects. This role offers foundational tools and hands-on agency experience, ideal for new PR professionals embarking on their communications career. You will actively contribute to media and influencer outreach, creative brainstorming, internal meetings, and crucial administrative tasks. This position is key to building your network of media and influencer contacts, showcasing a strong passion for the industry, and a solid understanding of the local media landscape.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a continuous commitment to learning about earned media, social media, and current marketing trends.
  • Effectively multitask and meet strict deadlines within a fast-paced, high-volume work environment.
  • Draft essential program materials, including key messages, Q&A documents, fact sheets, press releases, and media pitches.
  • Conduct proactive media relations through various channels like phone, email, and in-person interactions.
  • Develop comprehensive media lists by researching national news outlets and key journalists.
  • Manage influencer relations, encompassing talent research, outreach coordination, contracting, concept and content development, and campaign performance tracking.
  • Execute media monitoring, coverage tracking, and detailed reporting.
  • Source, order, assemble, and dispatch PR packages.
  • Provide crucial onsite and logistical support for client events when required.
  • Participate actively in weekly account calls, providing timely status updates.
  • Handle administrative and financial tasks such as invoicing, cost tracking, monitoring, and reporting.

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in communications/marketing or 1+ years of experience in an agency or corporate communications setting.
  • Understanding of popular social media platforms, associated tools, and social listening services.
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, and adapt quickly to new technologies.
  • General understanding of agency processes and service capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to grasp client, business, and industry dynamics, and to track these against social media metrics.
  • Proficiency in Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms) or Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • An interest in exploring and learning AI tools to enhance daily PR activities.
  • Availability to work in-office a minimum of two days per week.
