About the Role: Software Consulting Engineer Intern

As a Software Consulting Engineer Intern, you will join the Orchestration and Automation team, a key part of Cisco's technology bridging the gap between product capabilities and customer needs. You will work closely with your Manager and Mentor to gain hands-on experience developing software solutions for customers using Cisco Secure Development Lifecycle processes across various Cisco technologies. This role offers the opportunity to participate in one or more projects and interact with customers, Software Architects, Delivery Engineers, Managers, and Cisco Customer Experience (CX) Leadership.

Your Impact

During the program, you will actively participate in day-to-day delivery activities. These include coding, attending customer meetings, creating deliverables, building labs, engaging in DevOps practices, deploying solutions, and troubleshooting issues. You will apply your coursework and experience in real-world scenarios as a Full Stack Developer. You will likely gain experience in:

  • Java, Gradle, Spring, Python, Ansible
  • Automated unit testing, linting and builds
  • Web development / VueJS / REST / SOAP / Web Sockets
  • Engineering practices in Git and DevOps
  • Deployment and Support models

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a certification program (e.g., Boot Camp, Apprenticeship, Community College), or currently enrolled in an undergraduate degree program in relevant fields such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Electrical Engineering, or related technical fields.
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding of computer science fundamentals, including data structures and algorithms.
  • Development experience using Python, Java, Spring/Spring Boot, JUnit tests.
  • Proficiency in SQL and relational database concepts.
  • Experience with UNIX, Linux, and Windows Operating Systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated curiosity and a desire to tackle and solve complex problems.
  • Experience in automation frameworks like Ansible.
  • Non-academic coding experience (e.g., hack-a-thons, code challenges, personal projects, GitHub, Open Source, volunteer coding, conference participation).
  • Familiarity with AI tools is a plus, but not a primary requirement.
  • Any relevant certification such as CCNA, CCNP, Oracle, Red Hat Linux, Java, etc.
