About the role
About the Role
We are seeking our first AI Capability Summer Intern to help accelerate the evolution of our People Team operations over a 10-week duration. In this role, you will help us transition from "managing" workflows to "automating" them. Sitting directly within the HR Tech team, you will act as a highly technical, hands-on-keyboard builder who bridges the gap between process design and functional engineering. The primary focus of this role leans heavily toward technical execution and systems integration. You will turn valuable process opportunities into functional prototype agents, hunting for high-impact ways to deploy AI and automated workflows across our global operations-ranging from reimagining knowledge-retrieval systems to automating complex data processing. We have the data and the strategic vision; we need your builder's energy to convert blueprints into live, highly reliable solutions.
What Success Looks Like
By the conclusion of this 10-week internship, you will have moved multiple high-value, lower-risk workflows from manual concepts to live, working automated prototypes. Success will be defined by your ability to deliver solutions that are not just highly functional, but safely sandboxed, thoroughly documented, and ready for clean technical handoff to our internal HR Tech operations for long-term ownership.
What You Will Do
- Workflow Automation & Agent Engineering: Architect, configure, and deploy autonomous AI workflows and task-specific agents capable of interpreting HR queries, manipulating data, and triggering programmatic actions.
- Workspace Integration Middleware: Use Google Apps Script to build immediate, agile automation pipelines within the Google Workspace ecosystem (Sheets, Docs, Drive), embedding large language models into daily workflows.
- API Development & Core Connectivity: Write robust backend logic to establish secure data exchanges via RESTful APIs and JSON payloads between automation tools, communication layers (Slack), and foundational enterprise HR systems.
- Knowledge Layer Structuring: Translate unstructured internal HR policies, playbooks, and complex guidelines into structured, machine-optimized formats that AI models can efficiently query and accurately reference.
- Code Sustainability & Documentation: Author highly clean, modular, and dry code in JavaScript and Python. Maintain a centralized repository and create thorough, comprehensive transition documentation so that workflows remain fully maintainable by the permanent HR Tech team during future enterprise system upgrades.
- Safe Sandbox Testing & Governance: Collaborate closely with security and HRIS stakeholders to build and pilot solutions strictly within isolated, secure testing environments. Prioritize data compliance by embedding data-masking mechanisms to protect sensitive information and personally identifiable information (PII).
- Chatbot & HR system Support: Provide technical support for projects involving employee experience chatbot and HR systems.
Your Qualifications
At Cimpress, we are striving to hire individuals that add new ideas and perspectives to our teams and enhance our culture. No matter your background or work experience, we strongly encourage you to apply—even if you feel that you don’t meet the exact requirements or have the same qualifications. You might be a great candidate for this or other opportunities.
- Proficiency in JavaScript and Python: Proven ability to write structured, modular code for API handling, custom data transformations, and automated decision logic.
- Experience with Google Apps Script: Practical experience extending Google Workspace capabilities and executing automated scripting tasks.
- API and Data Integration Expertise: Solid understanding of handling standard authentication protocols, executing API requests, and managing data parsing via JSON.
- Low-Code/No-Code Platform Experience: Familiarity with orchestration tools such as nån, Zapier, or Make, with the specific ability to inject and extend platform functionality using custom Python or JavaScript code nodes.
- Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Data Informatics, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, or a similarly technical, quantitative discipline.
Nice to Have
- Exposure to deploying frontier models via API (such as Google Gemini, OpenAI GPT, or Anthropic Claude).
- Conceptual or practical understanding of agentic orchestration libraries or data security frameworks.
- A strong process-engineering mindset with the ability to map complex human workflows into logical, programmatic steps.
