About the Role

The National Trade Sales Manager at Chronicle Books connects our Distribution Partners with independent bookstores, museum shops, and school & library market channels. The role acts as a champion for these markets and a trusted voice for internal teams, delivering critical insights and sales strategies.

Sales & Account Support

Key responsibilities include:

  • Partnering with Field Sales Managers and commission groups to exceed territory sales goals.
  • Serving as the go-to resource for all things Chronicle Books.
  • Sharing market insights, trends, and opportunities with internal stakeholders.
  • Selling frontlist and backlist titles and managing full sales cycles for key accounts.

Strategy & Collaboration

Key duties include:

  • Collaborating with Marketing and Publicity to align promotions and sales campaigns.
  • Partnering with Inventory, Operations, and Customer Service for smooth processes and strong relationships.
  • Providing input on seasonal forecasting and new product launches.
  • Offering ongoing training and education on sales best practices.

Event & Conference Leadership

This role involves:

  • Planning and leading seasonal sales conferences, webinars, and pre-sales meetings.
  • Coordinating Chronicle Books’ presence at key industry events and trade shows.
  • Supporting account participation in virtual events and educational workshops.

Success Metrics

The success of the National Trade Sales Manager is measured by:

  • Exceeding territory sales goals.
  • Enhanced performance of sales reps and commission groups.
  • Successful execution of seasonal events and trade shows.
  • Positive feedback from internal teams and partners on communication and collaboration.

Compensation & Benefits

This position offers a salary range of $68,000 - $78,200 annually and eligibility for a profit share plan. Comprehensive benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401k, paid vacation, sick time, family leave, commuter benefits, long-term disability, tuition assistance, and a wellness stipend.

Work Schedule

The role follows a hybrid schedule with 3 to 5 in-office days per week in the San Francisco office.

Requirements

Candidates must have:

  • 5+ years of sales or sales support experience in publishing or a related industry.
  • A strong understanding of independent bookstore, museum store, and/or school & library markets.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with Edelweiss; Salesforce experience a plus.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
