Digital Forensic Analyst I at CGS Federal

CGS Federal is seeking a Digital Forensic Analyst I, primarily focused on the preservation and collection of mobile device and cloud-stored data. The ideal candidate will be fluent in a broad range of forensic technologies and eager to take a primary role in a rapidly expanding forensics department. This position involves travel for on-site collection efforts and an in-office presence at the primary firm office, which houses the forensics lab and data center. Key Responsibilities and Attributes for Success

  • Perform forensic data collection and basic forensic analysis, both on-site and remotely.
  • Coordinate directly with legal teams and client IT departments to understand project scope.
  • Maintain forensic tool sets by staying current on version updates and market options.
  • Collaborate closely with project management and team members on complex, deadline-driven projects.
  • Assist in developing, documenting, and refining procedures for discovery process requirements.
  • Manage all chain of custody best practices in accordance with the rules of evidence.
  • Consistently adhere to standard operating procedures.
  • Perform quality checks on work products before client delivery.
  • Complete additional duties assigned by the manager, including general IT functions.

Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who possess:

  • A minimum of an undergraduate degree, preferably in Digital Forensic Science or Computer Science/Engineering.
  • 1+ years of relevant experience, demonstrating understanding of the forensic lifecycle, proper scoping, evidence acquisition across various devices, and intermediate forensic analysis.
  • Experience using industry-standard forensic tools such as EnCase, Cellebrite, Oxygen, FTK Imager, MacQuisition, X1 Social Discovery, and Logicube Falcon.
  • General understanding of Mac/Windows filesystems, mobile devices, and encryption.
  • Experience preserving desktops, laptops, mobile devices/tablets, servers, cloud/on-premise email implementations, nontraditional cloud data sources, and social media in a forensically sound manner.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully, both verbally and in writing, with team members and technical/non-technical clients.
  • Ability to work extended hours when necessary to meet client deadlines.
  • Superior organizational skills with acute attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel regularly on short notice; a valid passport for occasional international travel is required.
  • An energetic self-starter mentality, capable of working effectively within a team and independently.
  • Ability to document forensic workflows based on sound industry practice.
  • Willingness to develop and train other team members to enhance group knowledge and cultivate secondary resources for larger collection events.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to solve complex problems on the fly.

Ideal Candidate Attributes

Additionally, candidates ideally will have:

  • An understanding of the electronic discovery reference model (EDRM).
  • At least one industry-standard certification (e.g., EnCE, CCE, CCFE, GCFE, GCFA, CCO, CCPA, CCME).
  • General knowledge of litigation support applications (e.g., Relativity, Concordance, Nuix, LAW PreDiscovery).
  • Experience with structured data export analysis, custom scripting, and data manipulation for client reports.
  • Understanding of Robo/Rich copy tools, BAT (PowerShell) scripting, and Active Directory.
  • Experience with scripting, programming/coding, and database languages (SQL, VB, HTML, Access).
