Job Description

Assistant General Counsel at Center for Internet Security

The Assistant General Counsel is an integral part of the Legal and Compliance department, reporting directly to the General Counsel and Chief Legal Officer. In this pivotal role, you will collaborate with Center for Internet Security (CIS) team members to champion the CIS mission and actively contribute to the organization's growth. This position's primary focus is to deliver essential legal support to various business and cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft and negotiate intricate domestic and international agreements concerning a broad spectrum of cybersecurity products and services with both private and government entities.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a comprehensive contracting strategy for CIS’s Sales, Procurement, and Corporate organizations. This includes standardizing contract templates, streamlining the contract approval process, creating negotiation playbooks, and conducting training.
  • Support business partners in marketing and communications initiatives, including conducting legal compliance reviews of all related materials.
  • Assist in advising on and implementing privacy policies, actively monitoring relevant privacy laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Contribute to advising on and implementing best practices in corporate and artificial intelligence (AI) governance across the entire organization.
  • Provide expert legal counsel to business partners on applicable laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with diverse internal and external stakeholders, offering legal support to other parts of the organization as required.
  • Effectively communicate risks to business partners to facilitate the closing of complex transactions and mitigate potential disputes.
  • Conduct thorough legal research when necessary.
  • Undertake other assigned tasks and responsibilities as they arise.

What We're Looking For

  • A Juris Doctor degree from an accredited institution.
  • Over 7 years of experience as a practicing attorney, ideally gained in a top-tier law firm or a technology company.
  • Active membership in a state bar in good standing, with eligibility to register as an in-house counsel in New York.
  • Significant expertise in supporting corporate and AI governance, privacy, marketing and communications, and/or government contracting.
  • Strong drafting skills demonstrated across a variety of commercial agreements, such as strategic partnership agreements, sales agreements, SaaS agreements, software licenses, services agreements, purchase orders, and membership agreements.
  • The ability to effectively manage a substantial volume of legal issues and negotiations concurrently, while skillfully prioritizing competing demands.
  • A proven team player with a high-performing professional demeanor.
  • Possesses a high level of personal integrity and accountability, coupled with demonstrated maturity, discretion, and sound judgment.
  • Authorization to work in the United States is required.

Bonus Points If You Have

  • Previous in-house legal experience, particularly working with business and cross-functional teams.
  • Experience within the technology industry, especially cybersecurity.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cybersecurity, nonprofit, and/or export laws and regulations.
  • Designation as a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP).
  • Designation as a Certified Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP).
  • Experience supporting transactions involving both domestic and international customers.
  • Proficiency in using contract management software for template management and document generation.
