Position Summary

We are looking to hire a Director, Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) for our Corporate Office.

The Director, Health, Safety & Environment is responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight for all HSE programs, policies, and procedures while ensuring regulatory compliance is maintained within the industry. This role works closely with all levels of management and employees to ensure consistent promotion and utilization of safe work practices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement HSE strategy that aligns with CDN Control’s strategic direction and supports the company’s risk appetite.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to the HSE team by ensuring the successful delivery of KPIs, workload prioritization, performance, and professional development needs.
  • Ensure implementation, effectiveness, and integrity of the corporate HSE program, policies, and procedures, so that they are compliant to applicable standards and regulations (provincial and federal).
  • Drive continuous improvements in health and safety performance and risk mitigation by identifying best practices and actionable insights from various sources, including leadership and employee input, key performance indicators, trend analysis, incident reports, external audits, vendor management systems etc.
  • Establish effective key metrics to monitor health and safety performance and risks, including regular reporting to executive leadership.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of safety-related training for our employees.
  • Act as a liaison with internal and external clients to address safety concerns and complaints, ensuring that all issues are addressed in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Oversight of leave management programs and processes related to safety incidents, ensuring they are in compliance with legislation, support the organization’s return to work philosophy and are cost efficient.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting for client proposals and other reporting as required.
  • Participate in client/industry forums and workshops to represent the organization’s safety strategy and promote industry-wide health and safety initiatives.
  • Develop and manage the health and safety budget, ensuring that resources are effectively allocated.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Related University degree, college diploma, and/or trade certification and typically 12 or more years of related experience; or combination of formal education and experience.
  • 5 or more years of experience in a senior people leadership role.
  • Professional designations required - National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO), Certified Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP).
  • Influential leader with a proven track record of developing and implementing successful HSE programs.
  • In-depth knowledge of HSE trends, industry best practices and applicable legislation for the jurisdictions in which the company operates.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel.
