Position Overview
The Specialist, Contract Administration, Business & Rights role at CBC/Radio-Canada involves negotiating, preparing, and administering a range of contracts including program, personal services, distribution, and rights contracts. The role requires working under minimal supervision and applying specialized knowledge in contract negotiations in a fast-paced, ever-changing media environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Negotiate and authorize agreements, contracts, deal memos, and licensing terms.
- Provide advice on collective agreements, labour, tax law, and copyright legislation.
- Monitor and recommend changes to contracting language and practices.
- Determine CBC’s rights regarding the use and exploitation of content.
- Develop and maintain contacts with copyright owners and industry organizations.
Additional Duties
- Assess programming for international market potential.
- Consult with producers on project directions and contractual obligations.
- Oversee clerical staff and provide guidance on contracting policies.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have a University degree in a relevant discipline and at least five years’ experience in contract administration. They must possess deep understanding of content distribution, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to navigate complex data interfaces related to rights and costing.
Work Environment
This position is a hybrid role combining in-office work at the Broadcast Centre in Toronto with remote work. It is a full-time temporary long-term (fixed term) position.
