Job Summary

We are looking for an Editor-in-Chief to lead four of our teams in the Southwest Ontario region: Windsor, London, Kitchener-Waterloo, and Hamilton (including our Niagara region office).

These teams provide daily news services across various platforms, including live audio morning and afternoon shows for these cities and surrounding areas, a live video newscast, and continuous digital coverage.

In this role, you will lead the journalistic team and guide the local editorial strategy for these stations. You will develop, implement, and oversee objectives with measurable results for each station. You will be responsible for daily local news, pilot projects, live and on-demand coverage, community outreach activities, and special news programs, ensuring they meet the needs of people living and working in each of these regions. You will also collaborate with other CBC leaders and units to maximize the impact of our journalistic activities.

You distinguish yourself through your strategic leadership, demonstrate a constant concern for audience needs, and have a proven track record as a driver of change. You have a creative spirit and the willingness to take on the challenges posed by a constantly transforming media landscape, and you encourage others to leverage their adaptability in their work.

You will implement strategies aimed at building strong connections with new audiences, with a focus on growing the 35-49 age segment through journalism focused on their needs and the realities of the communities where they live and work. You will manage change in each station, encouraging teams to adapt their work to meet the evolving needs of a diverse and growing population.

You will hire, inspire, guide, and support employees, in addition to fostering their development, ensuring that teams, like the communities they serve, reflect a wide range of experiences and perspectives. You will be fully committed to reflecting the growing cultural diversity of the region and building strong connections with people from key demographic segments in different communities in a way that is relevant to them.

You will ensure that CBC/Radio-Canada's journalistic standards are respected and that our reports and programs are fair, balanced, accurate, serious, relevant, and intelligent.

As a leader, you will also be the point person for all non-journalistic issues and will collaborate with partners from other departments to manage issues that arise, including maintenance, security, and technical matters. While you are not responsible for resolving all these issues, you will ensure that solutions are found in a timely manner.
