Database Administrator
Cayuse Civil Services, LLC is seeking a skilled Database Administrator for a hybrid role in Austin, TX. This full-time position offers a salary range of $91,520.00 - $131,040.00 annually. Employment is contingent upon the successful execution of the client contract.
The Work
The Database Administrator will perform advanced database administration and management functions for complex applications with sophisticated data models, multi-stage workflows, and extensive reporting requirements. This role involves providing expert leadership in the design, development, maintenance, optimization, and migration of integrated database systems, ensuring adherence to enterprise structural and security standards. Responsibilities
- Enter codes and scripts to create and maintain production databases and associated objects.
- Select and configure utility programs to monitor database performance, such as record distribution, indexing efficiency, and memory utilization.
- Analyze, design, modify, and maintain logical and physical database structures for application and reporting needs.
- Design and implement procedures for database backup, retrieval, and recovery from failures.
- Execute backup, restore, and recovery procedures to ensure database availability, reliability, and data integrity.
- Support installation, configuration, and upgrades of database software and migrations to new data management system levels.
- Assist in the selection and evaluation of database management software and related tools.
- Provide assistance in planning, developing, implementing, and maintaining data warehouses, data marts, and decision support environments.
- Perform performance tuning and optimization of database and data warehouse environments, including query optimization, indexing strategies, and resource utilization improvements.
- Monitor database and data warehouse performance, identify bottlenecks, and recommend/implement efficiency improvements.
- Create test database environments for application and reporting teams.
- Assist in benchmarking and threshold testing for performance baselines and capacity planning.
- Perform logical and physical data modeling for transactional and analytical workloads.
- Design relational database models and create physical data models from logical models, aligning with data warehousing best practices.
- Evaluate user requests for new data elements, structures, and systems; incorporate approved changes into the shared data environment.
- Perform data modeling and prototyping to validate structure, performance, and usability of proposed solutions.
- Maintain and govern the data dictionary, ensuring uniformity of definitions and standards.
- Maintain security and integrity of critical infrastructure systems by preventing unauthorized access and ensuring compliance with national security and foreign ownership regulations.
- Establish and implement database security controls, including user roles, permissions, access levels, and encryption.
- Assist with determining, implementing, and enhancing database security standards.
- Execute security recovery procedures and support audit and compliance activities.
- Assist with monitoring and improving agency disaster recovery procedures and systems for databases and data warehouses.
- Coordinate data usage to ensure data integrity, control redundancy, and enforce standards.
- Apply working knowledge of Electronic and Information Resources (EIR) Accessibility standards to database administration tools and user interfaces.
- Ensure user interfaces for database administration and data input/output are compliant with accessibility standards.
- Provide support to users encountering EIR Accessibility issues and coordinate with developers to resolve them.
- Direct and coordinate with programmers, analysts, and other technical staff to implement database changes and enhancements.
- Review and correct database-related programs, scripts, and procedures for quality, performance, and compliance.
- Answer user questions and provide technical assistance regarding data, database structures, and access tools.
- Confer with coworkers and stakeholders to determine the impact of database changes and to plan implementation.
- Prepare and maintain database documentation, procedures, data definitions, and data dictionaries.
- Assist in developing and enforcing standards, guidelines, policies, and procedures for the database environment.
- Support project control, quality assurance, and cost estimating activities related to database and data warehouse implementations.

Qualifications

- 4–7 years of experience in database administration, data warehousing, or a related information systems field.
- Familiarity with standard concepts, practices, and procedures in database and data warehouse management.
