Accountant
Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Rochester (CCDOR) is seeking a dedicated Accountant to join our Finance Department. This full-time position offers a Monday-Friday daytime schedule and a salary range of $65,000 to $75,000 annually.
About the Role
As an Accountant at CCDOR, you will manage multiple tasks with strict deadlines, providing transparent and complete financial reports to management in accordance with CCDOR’s Financial Policies and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This role requires a strong understanding of general accounting theory, techniques, and practices, coupled with excellent computer, verbal, and written communication skills. You will report to a member of the Finance Department leadership team and support programmatic staff and leadership. The ideal candidate is prompt, detail-oriented, professional, analytical, and adept at communicating complex quantitative data to decision-makers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare financial reports and analytics for various third-party funding organizations in collaboration with programmatic leaders and staff.
- Assist with applying CCDOR’s revenue recognition policies in accordance with GAAP for not-for-profit entities.
- Audit, analyze, and reconcile ledger accounts to confirm completeness and accuracy of data, using judgment to assess reasonableness and ensuring transactions are properly supported.
- Create ad hoc reports as necessary to understand and explain agency financial activity.
- Prepare journal entries in accordance with CCDOR policies.
- Review program financial statements with program leadership to ensure compliance with third-party funding agency contract terms and conditions.
- Follow CCDOR’s internal control policies and assist with external audits.
- Prepare reports for external reporting requirements, including midyear reporting, forecasts, cost reports, and grant-related information.
- Perform financial analysis as needed and requested.
- Participate in the development and preparation of budgets for new programs and contracts.
- Prepare annual operating budgets and financial forecasts.
- Participate in meetings and training programs as required.
- Prepare materials for Finance Committee and Board of Director meetings, and attend meetings as directed.
- Provide regional financial information to the Finance Department leadership for consolidating financial statements.
- Maintain a high level of expertise in specialized areas through continuing education and professional development.
- Understand and uphold CCDOR’s Mission, Vision, Values, and Strategic Plan.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education: Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. A Bachelor's Degree in Finance with requisite experience may be substituted at CFO discretion.
- Experience: One (1) to three (3) years of professional accounting experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must include oversight of financial statement preparation.
- Skills: Excellent analytical, organizational, communication skills, and attention to detail. Strong Microsoft Office skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines. Knowledge of GAAP and proficiency in financial/accounting software. Nonprofit experience is preferred.
- Additional Qualifications: Valid NYS Driver's license, acceptable driving record, and a reliable vehicle for travel. Ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and foster teamwork. Commitment to CCDOR’s Mission Statement.
