Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Digital Product Owner to join the Informatics & Connected Worksite team within the CAT IT Division. As a member of a Scrum Team, the Digital Product Owner will focus on maximizing product value. This role involves collaborating with the Scrum development team and product team to identify product opportunities, define functional requirements, and improve business processes. The incumbent will act as the Product Owner for medium-complexity projects that hold significant value for the organization. This position is preferably based in Chennai - Brigade World Trade Center or Bangalore – Caterpillar PSN office.
What You Will Do
- Work closely with the Scrum Master and Development Team to create and manage the Product Backlog, ensuring clear priorities.
- Maximize the value of the product and the efforts of the development team.
- Act as the Product Owner for medium-complexity, high-value projects.
- Create, maintain, and prioritize the Product Backlog based on business value throughout the project lifecycle.
- Communicate Product Backlog priorities effectively to the team.
- Serve as the key decision-maker for product features.
- Define and communicate the product vision and goals to the team, especially at the start of each sprint.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across the organization.
- Make decisions regarding release dates and content.
- Represent the customer and engage with them directly.
- Participate in daily scrums, track team progress towards sprint goals, and help resolve blockers.
- Potentially take on Scrum Master responsibilities for an agile development team.
- Lead and participate in agile ceremonies including sprint planning, requirements grooming, backlog refinement, retrospectives, reviews, and demos.
- Inspect product progress at the end of each sprint and accept or reject work completed by the Development Team.
- Act as the voice of the agile development teams, communicating status externally.
- Embody Scrum values and understand the framework and roles within the team.
- Champion the agile community and foster its growth within the organization.
- Oversee product delivery from inception to production release, working with development teams to meet timelines.
- Share daily status and release progress with the product team, ensuring transparency about timeline changes or blockers.
- Collaborate with the QA team to ensure product quality.
- Liaise with the support team to monitor support requests and plan releases accordingly.
- Perform other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management.
What You Will Have
- Four-year bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science, information systems, marketing, communications, engineering, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience working as a Business Analyst (BA).
- 3+ years of experience with Agile methodologies.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively to ensure team success.
- Strong accountability, planning, organization, and teamwork skills.
- Highly developed interpersonal skills for handling sensitive or controversial situations.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, suitable for executive-level discussions and technical deep dives.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and influence distributed global teams (APD, EAME, ADSM) across product, engineering, sales, and external partners.
- Capacity to motivate and inspire the scrum team.
- Proven ability to motivate, lead, and collaborate with cross-functional product development teams and manage interactions across product areas.
- This position requires a 5-day-a-week in-office work schedule.
