Overview
The Director of Research Integrity and Compliance Programs at Portland State University oversees operations and supervises staff supporting research integrity and regulatory compliance programs. The role ensures adherence to federal, state, and institutional policies covering human and animal subjects protections, biological safety, financial conflict of interest, research security, export controls, responsible conduct of research, and compliance with the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily operations of research compliance programs.
- Supervise research integrity professionals and review committees (IRB, IACUC, IBC).
- Coordinate review and approval of research protocols and disclosures.
- Maintain federal assurances and resolve compliance issues.
- Negotiate collaborative agreements with external research partners.
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include a Master’s degree with six years of experience in research compliance (or a Bachelor’s degree with eight years), plus three years of management experience. Candidates must have in-depth knowledge of relevant federal and state laws (e.g., 45 CFR 46, Animal Welfare Act) and experience in one or more compliance areas such as human subjects protection, animal care, or biosafety.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a higher education research compliance role.
- Knowledge of electronic administration systems for protocol management.
- CIP Certification.

Work Details & Compensation
This is a full-time, on-site role based at PSU’s downtown Portland campus with a Monday - Friday schedule. Salary is competitive, starting between $96,468 and $127,824, with the possibility for negotiation based on experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package.
