Job Description

The Role of a Silicon Alliances Ecosystem Development Manager at Canonical

Ubuntu, Canonical's platform, is a rapidly growing enterprise Linux, leading public cloud computing, and a favorite for engineers driving future innovations. Our mission is to empower enterprises to fully embrace open source, from the Linux kernel to infrastructure solutions like OpenStack and Kubernetes, and up to data, security, analytics, and serverless capabilities.

The Silicon Alliances Team collaborates with leading semiconductor companies to integrate open source adoption with innovative optimizations, maximizing the potential of new chips. We work with our semiconductor partners to craft joint product roadmaps, manage delivery, devise go-to-market strategies, and explore new business models. This ensures differentiated hardware and robust product lifecycle support, all while anchored to best-in-class Ubuntu. The ultimate goal is to provide a seamless experience for deployment, maintenance, and development on any hardware, from cloud to edge.

We are seeking individuals passionate about both hardware and software technology, eager to grow into business development roles. We're hiring across early career to senior levels, with responsibilities ranging from nurturing small exploratory partnerships to overseeing our largest strategic collaborations.

This challenging role is ideal for someone adept at navigating complex technical issues, learning quickly, and architecting solutions and strategies across global teams.

Location: This is a remote role for candidates in the Americas. Applicants in EMEA are also considered, provided they can accommodate a shifted schedule to support partners in the Americas. Global travel for sprints, events, and partner meetings is an integral part of this position.

What Your Day Will Look Like

  • Represent Canonical, its solutions, and software to partners.
  • Develop a deep understanding of silicon partner strategies, technologies, and roadmaps, identifying alignment with Canonical’s current and future products.
  • Work cross-functionally with engineering, product, marketing, and sales teams to facilitate new business, leading the definition of joint products, solutions, and complex programs through strong communication and influencing skills.
  • Ensure robust project plans are created, tracked, and executed effectively.
  • Develop joint Go-To-Market strategies and campaigns with silicon partners, managing market messaging, collateral, and product launch plans.
  • Negotiate successful contracts.

What We Are Looking For in You

  • B.A./B.S./B.E. degree in science, technology, and/or engineering.
  • Fundamental understanding of the semiconductor industry and ecosystem.
  • Experience in software and system architecture is preferred.
  • Customer-facing experience in business development, technology strategy, or similar functions.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to grasp complex material and synthesize key points.
  • Ability to think and work at both strategic and tactical levels.
  • Disciplined and self-motivated for a remote-first workplace environment.

Additional Skills That You Might Also Bring

  • Experience with open source software and open source business models is preferred.
  • Team leadership or program management experience.

What We Offer You

Your base pay is determined by factors such as geographical location, experience level, knowledge, and skills. In addition to core benefits, certain roles may qualify for annual bonuses and sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, reflecting our commitment to global workforce equity.

Beyond competitive compensation, we provide comprehensive benefits that align with our values. Specific benefits may vary by work location; please discuss with your Talent Partner for details.

  • Fully remote working environment – we've operated remotely since 2004!
  • Personal learning and development budget of 2,000 USD per annum.
