Job Description
Full-Cycle AP and Payroll Specialist
Canisius University is seeking a Full-Cycle AP and Payroll Specialist to join their Controller's Office. This is a full-time, hourly position reporting directly to the Associate Controller. The role is responsible for maintaining and reconciling financial ledgers, analyzing and reporting data, and ensuring accounting activities comply with policies and GAAP.

Role Responsibilities
- Provide oversight and support for the accounts payable function, including year-end close.
- Support and back up payroll processing.
- Perform general accounting responsibilities: journal entries, intercompany transactions, account reconciliations, and accruals.
- Prepare and schedule upload of automated journal entries and accounting records.
- Review processing and reporting of payments and 1099 related transactions for regulatory compliance.
- Record, examine, and analyze financial records, documents, and reports, supporting monthly and fiscal year-end close processes.
- Recommend new business procedures or changes to existing ones, assist in solving accounting/financial problems, and audit financial transactions for accuracy.
- Ensure accurate maintenance of the Fixed Asset ledger.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in business or accounting; Bachelor’s degree in accounting preferred.
- 1 to 3 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Experience with payroll processing.
- Knowledge of GAAP.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Experience with BANNER Finance or similar integrated financial system.
- Strong analytical, communication (written and oral), and customer-focused skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and manage multiple tasks effectively under timelines.
- Knowledge of higher education processes and procedures preferred.
- Eligible to work in the United States.
