About The Role: Lead Engineer

Canary Technologies is seeking a Lead Engineer to drive its next phase of growth, specifically focusing on APAC expansion. This role requires a strong technical leader capable of navigating ambiguity, defining and evolving architectural strategies, and mentoring a talented engineering team. The ideal candidate deeply values customer experience, collaborates closely with Product Managers on decision-making, and ensures operational excellence for large-scale services. Passion and discipline in this area are paramount.

Responsibilities

• Directly manage a pod of engineers dedicated to accelerating Canary's growth in the APAC region.
• Lead by example as an Individual Contributor (IC) by demonstrating high-quality and high-velocity code delivery.
• Shape and own the overall architecture, evolving it based on both engineering requirements and product needs.
• Develop a deep understanding of product metrics and customer usage patterns to inform strategic decisions.
• Contribute a strong voice to product decisions and prioritization processes.
• Independently mentor and provide guidance to engineers within the pod.
• Create engineering execution plans and effectively delegate tasks to team members.
• Autonomously manage pod processes, escalating issues appropriately when necessary.
• Actively participate in the hiring and interviewing of new engineering talent.

Qualifications

• 5-8+ years of robust engineering experience, including significant time in an Individual Contributor (IC) engineering role.
• 3+ years of proven experience successfully leading engineering teams.
• Solid expertise in developing backend applications.
• Demonstrated ability to ship high-quality products.
• Self-motivated, highly collaborative, and diligent work ethic.
• Exceptional communication skills, fostering consensus within diverse teams and establishing credibility. You are curious, thoughtful, and clear in your communication.
• Comfortable with ambiguity and eager to embrace ownership and accountability.
• Bonus: Strong proficiency in Vue / TypeScript and Django / Python.
