Job Overview
The Communications Specialist at Canadian Research Knowledge Network supports CRKN's Persistent Identifier (PID) Program by creating and coordinating external communications. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Strategy and Engagement and working under the Manager, Canadian Persistent Identifier Community, you will translate technical ideas into plain language across multiple channels.
Duties and Responsibilities
Communications (55%): Develop and execute communications strategies including writing, editing, and distributing content. Responsibilities include:
- Plan and create member and external messaging.
- Develop and manage social media strategy and content.
- Coordinate newsletter, corporate publications, and web content.
- Collaborate with partners such as the Digital Research Alliance of Canada.
- Create data-driven infographics and transform technical content.
PID Community Engagement (45%): Support stakeholder engagement and bilingual communication for ORCID-CA, DataCite Canada, and National PID Strategy through the following:
- Coordinate bilingual calls, webinars, and events.
- Develop presentations and training materials in English and French.
- Foster community engagement through dedicated channels.
- Support event program development for the Canadian PID Advisory Committee.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate holds a post-secondary degree in communications or related field with at least 2 years’ relevant experience. Bilingual proficiency in English and French is required, along with strong writing and digital marketing skills. Familiarity with content management systems, social media analytics, design tools, and project management software (e.g., Asana) is a plus. Ability to travel occasionally and obtain Government of Canada reliability status is required.
Salary, Term and Location
This is a Professional 2 position with a salary range of $80,000-$85,000, renewable one-year term pending funding. The CRKN office is in Ottawa, Ontario, while work is primarily virtual with occasional travel to Ottawa.
