Overview

The role of Entretien des terrains Granville Island at Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) involves maintaining Granville Island with a high standard of cleanliness, repair, and safety. This is a temporary, full-time, on-site position based in Vancouver, BC with an 18-month term.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate fleet and utility vehicles including commercial sweepers, auto scrubbers, and lift platforms.
  • Perform outdoor cleaning tasks such as pressure washing sidewalks, docks, gutters, skylights, and windows.
  • Carry out minor repairs including carpentry, asphalt repair, paving, plumbing, drywall, and door hardware.
  • Maintain waste compactor sites, remove graffiti, and assist with snow removal.
  • Clean and maintain parks and playgrounds, including seasonal leaf blowing and vacuuming.
  • Assist lead technicians in maintenance and repair of HVAC systems, engines, and small machinery.
  • Support event setups by installing and dismantling tents, stages, and barricades.
  • Utilize work order systems to prioritize tasks, log equipment readings and interact courteously with the public.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Certification or willingness to obtain certification for forklifts, aerial lifts, and platforms within a month.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • At least one year of experience in grounds, property, or building maintenance.
  • Training in landscaping, grounds, and building maintenance.
  • Experience with maintenance equipment such as pressure washers, leaf blowers, and sweepers.
  • Basic carpentry and interlocking paver installation skills.
  • Knowledge of hand and power tools.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations under the Canadian Labour Code and WSIB standards.
  • Ability to work safely in a marine environment and make minor autonomous decisions.

Preferred Skills

  • Basic knowledge of construction trades (plumbing, electrical, mechanical).
  • Possession of a WHMIS certificate.
