Job Description

AI Governance & Reporting Intern at Canada Life

This is a temporary full-time student position, 4 months in duration, for the May-August term. Applicants must be students registered in a Canadian College or University and returning to school after their work term or requiring a placement for graduation. While not required, preference will be given to students enrolled in a registered Co-op program. Applicants are required to submit both their resume and their most recent unofficial transcript as part of the application process.

We are looking for an AI Governance & Reporting Intern to join the Canada Life Data, AI Automation & Platforms team to help us operationalize responsible AI and AI enablement across Canada Life.

What You’ll Do

  • Governance & Compliance: Maintain the AI use-case inventory and lifecycle records across intake, review, approvals, and monitoring. Triage AI use-cases and ensure adherence to AI policies/standards (privacy, security, legal, etc.). Support governance forums and prepare briefing materials for the AI Review Group.
  • Reporting, Dashboard and Automation: Build and automate dashboards (e.g., in Power BI) showing AI use-case throughput and AI use case assessment lifecycle. Produce executive-level summaries—clear narratives, visuals, and call-outs on trends, risks, and decisions needed. Create automated reporting flows using Power Automate (notifications, SLA reminders, approvals tracking).
  • Data Analysis: Synthesize input from Architecture, Legal, Privacy, Risk, and Responsible AI reviews to build integrated reports. Analyze trends in AI adoption, tools, and KPI reporting.
  • Process Enablement: Improve and maintain governance templates, checklists, and SharePoint content. Support continuous improvement of the AI governance workflow and stakeholder experience.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with cross-functional teams across Canada Life to ensure alignment on standards, controls, and reporting cadences. Partner with global and local teams working on AI, automation, analytics and reporting.

What You’ll Be Working With

  • Power BI (advanced proficiency expected) – designing executive dashboards.
  • Power Automate – designing automated approval flows, reminders, and data refresh triggers.
  • Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint.
  • Jira, Confluence, LeanIX.
  • MS Copilot Chat, Studio and CoPilot reporting.

What You Bring

  • Strong interest in AI, including foundational understanding of AI/ML, AI products and services.
  • Interest in privacy, risk, and governance in a financial services context.
  • 2–3 years of academic or project experience in analytics, tech, or business.
  • High proficiency in Power BI and Power Automate (required).
  • Curiosity about AI and technology trends—and an emerging POV on their risks and opportunities.
  • Analytical problem-solver with strong attention to detail.
  • Clear written and verbal communicator.
  • Organized, dependable, and able to work across multiple teams.

Why Join Us

This internship offers a unique opportunity to learn how a large financial institution enables and governs AI responsibly. You will build executive-level reporting and analytical skills with real impact, working alongside experts in AI, Data, Architecture, Privacy, and Risk. You'll contribute to real initiatives that shape how AI is evaluated and deployed at Canada Life, gaining experience with key tooling like Power BI, Automate, and MS CoPilot. This role can accelerate your career in AI policy, tech governance, analytics, or risk management.

Compensation and Application

The base salary for this student position is between $48,000 - $71,900 annually, dependent on the number of work terms completed and other program factors. This represents base salary only. Career opportunities are open a minimum of 5 business days, with applications reviewed on a rolling basis.
