About The Role: Engineering Manager - Infrastructure
At Camunda, our CI/CD infrastructure platform is treated as an internal product. Our mission is to build a platform that offers a Golden Path, enabling 150+ engineers across 20+ teams to deliver with world-class velocity and uncompromising quality at scale. This allows Camunda engineers to focus on building the agentic technologies that will define our market leadership. We are approaching a pivotal phase with an upcoming quality surge that will significantly increase testing volume and engineering throughput. Our platform must scale seamlessly, without increasing developer toil. We are looking for an Engineering Manager - Infrastructure who acts as a servant leader. You will guide a high-leverage remote team of four infrastructure engineers and drive the evolution toward a scalable zero-toil platform. At the organizational level, you will ensure that the right way is the easy way, serving as an advocate for the engineers who rely on the platform every day.
What You'll Be Doing
- Ensure continuous delivery and improvement of our infrastructure platform.
- Guide the team through a massive reduction of manual work by employing an AI-driven engineering approach. You will reach a zero-touch scalable infrastructure, where AI handles dependency management, assists with incident resolution, cloud cost optimization, and developer support, ensuring the team can handle increasing scope and scale without having to grow in size.
- Prepare, define, and ensure execution of the strategy for our CI/CD and artifact distribution systems to scale without increasing engineering toil, especially during an upcoming quality surge.
- Grow, mentor, and coach a high-leverage platform team of 4 Infrastructure engineers, by setting clear expectations, giving actionable and timely feedback, and fostering a culture of empathy, autonomy, and continuous improvement in an asynchronous, remote environment.
What You Bring
- Ability and/or willingness to use our product.
- People leadership experience: track record of growing engineers to senior and beyond senior levels.
- Strong stakeholder leadership: Ability to translate technical needs into an actionable engineering roadmap and strategy, and implement that across teams.
- Senior-level technical depth and competency: Hands-on experience with:
- Cloud providers (e.g., GCP, AWS or similar)
- Kubernetes (any distribution)
- Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, ArgoCD or similar)
- Scaling high-load CI/CD systems (e.g., GitHub Actions with self-hosted runners or similar).
- Backend engineering background, fluent in at least one programming language (e.g., Python).
- Comfortable reviewing complex architecture and code; eager to contribute hands-on when needed (e.g., to implement internal workflow automations).
- Proven track record of ensuring team efficiency within remote, async-first environments.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience transforming teams into AI-native and/or automation-first teams.
- Background in technical product management or strong product thinking.
- Experience implementing FinOps practices and accountability.
