Design Engineer - Job Overview

We have an exciting opportunity within our Customer Engineering Department as a Network & Asset Engineer. This role will oversee upgrade projects and design work for Calor’s metered distribution networks and other existing assets, ensuring system optimization, regulatory compliance, and engineering excellence in safety, efficiency, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities

Design & Development

• Design and upgrade assets within Calor’s metered distribution network and existing assets.
• Ensure compliance with industry regulations, codes, and standards.
• Develop and maintain engineering specifications, procedures, and documentation.
• Complete relevant signoffs and collaborate with external consultants.

System Optimisation & Risk Management

• Identify process optimisation initiatives to enhance system efficiency.
• Conduct system analysis and feasibility studies for improvements.
• Assess and mitigate risks associated with metered distribution assets.
• Develop and implement safe systems of work.

Maintenance Strategy & Troubleshooting

• Develop long-term maintenance strategies to enhance system reliability.
• Establish maintenance schedules for metered networks.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
• Provide in-field technical support.

Project Management

• Plan and execute upgrade projects on existing sites.
• Coordinate with stakeholders to complete projects on time and budget.
• Oversee installations, modifications, and enhancements.

Profitability Assessments & Financial Optimization

• Conduct profitability assessments and evaluate investment requirements.
• Optimise asset performance for cost efficiency and profitability.
• Assist in budgeting, cost estimation, and ROI analysis.

Decommissioning & Asset Management

• Develop decommissioning strategies for outdated infrastructure.
• Ensure safe and compliant removal of assets from service.
• Manage asset lifecycle for long-term sustainability.

Regulatory Compliance & Safety

• Stay informed of changes to engineering regulations and best practices.
• Ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.
• Develop engineering procedures for operational integrity.

Emergency Response & Support

• Act as technical lead during system failures or emergencies.
• Diagnose issues and implement corrective actions.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in an engineering related field or equivalent with a minimum of 3 years of experience, preferably in gas distribution or energy sectors. Experience with managing engineering projects within a regulated safety framework is required.
