About the Role
The Mechanical Engineer role is a part-time, remote, independent contractor position in a leading AI research initiative in partnership with Mercor. You will use your technical and analytical expertise to design, evaluate, and benchmark AI reasoning in mechanical engineering workflows.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and assess complex mechanical engineering problems in design, thermodynamics, and applied mechanics.
- Evaluate AI-generated responses for conceptual accuracy and technical rigor.
- Provide clear, structured feedback on engineering problem sets and designs.
- Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and engineers to enhance outputs.
- Ensure scientific and technical accuracy in all training and evaluation content.
Ideal Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Prior experience in engineering research, academia, or technical consulting is a plus. Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, CAD, or simulation tools is advantageous.
Project Details
- Start Date: Immediate
- Duration: 1–2 months (potential for extension)
- Commitment: Part-time (~20 hours/week, flexible up to 40 hours/week)
- Schedule: Fully remote and asynchronous
- Rate: $65–$80 per hour
- Type: Independent contractor
