About the Role

The Mechanical Engineer role is a part-time, remote, independent contractor position in a leading AI research initiative in partnership with Mercor. You will use your technical and analytical expertise to design, evaluate, and benchmark AI reasoning in mechanical engineering workflows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and assess complex mechanical engineering problems in design, thermodynamics, and applied mechanics.
  • Evaluate AI-generated responses for conceptual accuracy and technical rigor.
  • Provide clear, structured feedback on engineering problem sets and designs.
  • Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and engineers to enhance outputs.
  • Ensure scientific and technical accuracy in all training and evaluation content.

Ideal Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with strong analytical skills and attention to detail. Prior experience in engineering research, academia, or technical consulting is a plus. Familiarity with Python, MATLAB, CAD, or simulation tools is advantageous.

Project Details

  • Duration: 1–2 months (potential for extension)
  • Commitment: Part-time (~20 hours/week, flexible up to 40 hours/week)
